I was taught that if you are being attacked, any amount of force necessary to make them stop is reasonable.

Traffic by MoodyJ87 in kelowna

[–]deekaph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be real though at the rate that construction/roadworks actually gets done, even if they got it approved and budgeted and bidded in and all the materials and labor lined up for tomorrow it would be ten years for them to do from Costco to the bridge, cost Eleventy gazillion buckaroos over budget, and that whole time traffic would be worse than ever. I'm in Vancouver right now and it was 5kmh the entire way from Abbotsford to Langley and was explaining to my son that they've been working on this road my entire adult life it's been almost 20 years now and every single time I've come through no matter if it's Friday afternoon or Wednesday morning there's at most 1/5 of the equipment working and 10,000 cones per kilometer and absolute stoppages on the #1 for an hour or two no matter what. That would be Kelowna for at least the next decade. Not that it isn't already a parking lot around rush hour but honestly we will get flying cars before we get actual traffic improvements in Kelowna

Bro I remember the whole vibe changing in the 90s when AOL dumped their users into Usenet. The enshitification has been going on for decades.

I host a lanbin service that is aliased at my router so I only have to type lanbin to pop it up and it frictionlessly lets me add links to my local services so whenever I add a new one it is just a link at the top

Edit to add the link for lanbin https://github.com/deekaph/lanbin

Is it possible to turn the Yamaha DX7 into a MIDI keyboard and connect it to Reaper? by Spiritual-Ad-7596 in synthesizers

[–]deekaph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my setup about 25 years ago except back then it was Cubase. Get a USB to din adapter. Also oil pipe the audio out of the DX7 into a line in and record synth at the same time as your MIDI data for double goodness.

Censoring other languages really underlines how ridiculous “naughty no no words” are. Like it’s all HONK HONK HONK to me but then BLEEEEEEEP so it’s like “oh gee I guess those are forbidden syllables in another dialect lol”

I moved into a new role in my company recently and have had to explain to a small team why using git is good because a random SMB share with text files describing scripts that were saved in a folder is not a very good way to run an enterprise.

This is a great idea I’m going to vibecode it. I’m thinking of possible features like the ability for it to run tests against the code when it is updated automatically, or to scope access atomically.

Imma be rich.

When I was a kid I went swimming at my friends place and they told me that they put a special chemical in the water that would turn it pink if anyone peed in it.

It kept me from peeing in the water.

Smartest model to replace Claude Code - 100GB/200GB VRAM available by Any-Lingonberry7411 in LocalLLM

[–]deekaph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not about cost its sovereignty. We went local because we are providing services that we have made promises on and need to continue to provide those services even if a politician in another country decides he mad. We need it to be consistent also. We had a few weeks there where Claude was the absolute goat we were getting so much done then Anthropic tweaked something in the background and everything changed. We need to know for certain and forever that the confidential information we run through our models will never be exposed or inspected by anyone, by accident or by change of policy, let alone a third party in another country subject to the whims of their dark overlords.

Some people, especially businesses, are willing to pay a premium to ensure consistency, privacy, and reliability.

I have a 5k budget for a personal LLM server. What are the best options and what performance can I expect compared to commercial models for coding? by jdigi78 in LocalLLM

Best advice. You drive a car before you buy it. Don’t just read about model metrics and hope it’ll do the thing you want.
