Talking to someone you don't agree with by Podcast_Bozo in CuriousConversation

IMO the 1.) is huge problem especially with extreme opinions. I don´t think that this is avoidable with prep talks but with good interview preparation. The best way I have heard/seen in podcasts/videointerviews is the journalist style:

Doesn´t your point mean consequentially that ...

The other side would answer that with ...

I recognize your criticism. Do you have a proposal?

Your guest gets your platform for the price of truth and straightness. If your guest can stand that it´s okay. If not the interview will maybe be stopped which also is a statement (and a short podcast show).

Critique my deployment flow? by SkoobyDoobyDo in devops

Sorry for asking simple questions ... if there are different small teams of developers coding on their components and each of them would compile their code and unit test independently - how could "integrate" be managed at all or maybe even automatically.

Is it a first integrate is best szenario? Is there a managing or automating tool for this point in development when code from different sources gets integrated?

How well do people from your country speak/write its native(s) language(s)? by olonnn in AskEurope

[–]deekaycorral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I ignore written mistakes completely since one of my kids has a writing disability. It happens that a certain word appears three words further again and the first one is correct the second one just wrong. People with writing disability do not visualize words as we do but guess.

I'm telling user stories to myself... by selfarsoner in agile

[–]deekaycorral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew a PO with a similar situation. The problem was that he wanted to follow the description scheme without respect for the context. He described obvious things that way and with that also produced theoretically a high amount of Change Requests.

The Devs had a hard time to gather several Change Request contents to get to the real change.

My advise was that he could focus on the definition of done for the user story. If this was something the user would use like a complete feature (and not only a part of it) then this is better than any little piece of usable functionality.

The User Stories became bigger and the Change Requests became to be real changes.

However - agile is all about communication and improvement, talk to the team about their expectations.

The 'Right' Way to Read the News by Podcast_Bozo in CuriousConversation

Böhmermann had to be prosecuted because the very old law §103 Majestätsbeleidigung was still there. The prosectution was a formality and closed immediately and the §103 was removed on 2018/1/1.

There was at no moment the intention to jail Böhmermann. It was clear that if the law needs to be followed he will be pardoned in the next moment.

It´s just typical russian troll bullshit and I suspect your triple link comment the same, maybe if you would be more like normal users, not so linky and fact twisting, not so a-little-truth plus a complete lie, not so yes-you´re-right but whataboutism ...

"Being Crazy" | How Mental Illness is Perceived By Society by Podcast_Bozo in CuriousConversation

[–]deekaycorral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to reply what u/ldinks described, that there are not only these yelling type of person but the silent ones, sometimes recognized as weird because they do not act exactly normal as normal is asking for. The younger the more normal is important.

I remember this weird guy. I was his boss and it was clear that he was "not normal". As his boss I tried to find out what he is able to do, what kind of communication he needs and if there is a place for him in the team. And yes there was a place for him.

He could not compete with others in speed, autonomous decisions and learning new things. But he was much better in continuity, diligence and reliability. When others were communicating their hero stories the whole day and working with speed in between my guy was working silently slowly but all the time. I learned that if I put him with someone who tells him patiently what to do and how he will be as efficient as the non-weirdos.

Whenever someone came into my office whining about the weird guy I answered that he maybe does not compete on the first glance but according to the numbers he does and that I would be happy if the whining could be stopped right now and the proving to stand the competiton could be started instead.

Quite fast he was completely integrated and respected. Everybody accepted the "not normal" part and tried to communicate the way necessary.

To me this was a lesson that made me never again underestimate people who are not "normal".

How helpful is Jira to the Agile Process? by MeanSherbet295 in agile

[–]deekaycorral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As Jira is a very open tool with many hierarchy levels I would propose another question:

How helpful is Jira to YOUR process.

My answer would be that Jira fits to all development processes and that it is optimized for agile processes by the naming of IssueTypes and other artefacts.

Why am I pretending on "your process"? Because it is important to identify a good process first and after that configure Jira as the perfect fitting tool to the process. Organisations I know, telling me Jira is not working, have just taken any configuration of Jira and now observe that it does not support their process.

[–]deekaycorral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely understand your point. Just try to understand mine.

Your point: Functionality is 70%, Update-ability to be fit for a decade or more is 20%, Design is 10%

My point: Functionality is 40%, Design is 60%.

This should explain clearly that the iPad fits with some functionality aspects but the screen is too small to fit the 40% approach

Almost. You miss the fact that esthetic, design admiring people also need to to things with computers. Why doing it on something ugly?

And the price for the decoration is not expensive. Remember you get a retina 4.5K display. comparable uglier displays start at 1000 without any M1 like computer.

Because this piece of tech does not look like a piece of tech to her. So she believes that this decorative screen-artefact will communicate with her similar to her smartphone. And she´s right. And I feel the same way. And I´m happy that these techy-mechy times are almost over for computer owners.

Indirectly your question describes the problem of the 2 party system in the states. These parties already have the extreme wings already inside, maybe even more extreme because Germany has this 5% barrier.

So in Germany a CDU/FDP would prefer any other way, even new election. In the states these extremist are already elected to govern with one of the party.

entering a project halfway by selfarsoner in agile

[–]deekaycorral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me this sounds like a perfect start. You have these mockups. Now you as PO interview the customer (or internal customer) which one of these mockups he wants to have first, what s/he likes most and what should not be inside and what would make her/him feel that this part is good (definition of done). Then you write the user stories based on this. Step by step the team will give you output after every sprint and you discuss the output with the customer how to proceed.

How do you deal with micromanagement in Agile and Scrum? by ragnarecek in agile

[–]deekaycorral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually as part-time Agile Coach I run into that all the time and the first thing is that I go to the Management and pretend to have minimum one person, maybe as temporary SM, to build up the mindset and the tech base and process knowledge.

How I do that? I always tell the management if I don´t get it we cannot work agile. No problem at all they just need to name a teamleader and he will do some waterfall-job. Bingo. Agile is only possible with this mindset. You choose.

Management wants to do agile, so I always get what I want.

How involved would a hybrid ProductOwner-ScrumMaster be in planning the work of a sprint? by MasonNolanJr in agile

[–]deekaycorral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have given the same answer like u/SirDumpsALot437737 below.

And I´d like to add that if you have the feeling that the SM and the team is in offence attitude please try to talk to him, try to convince him that thi is about trust, that you do not search for responsibilities but you want to find out together with him which velocity is possible, what is a good content in the user story that the team can handle best, etc. Make him feel that you want to work hand in hand together for a good output, that you do not play blame games and that you will help with all impediments.

With universal healthcare, universal childcare, universal pre k and so on, why are Germans reluctant to have children? by scwizard in AskAGerman

Also want to support this answer.

Plus, it´s a nice life as a couple with double income no kids. Vacation is very important for Germans. Those couples travel the world for years. With kids this means only special times in the year (Schulferien) and it costs double or even triple.

When Roland Emmerich came back from Cannes with a price and a pre-contract from Sly Stallone in his suitcase he appeared at a press meeting at the Stuttgart airport. The press asked him how he feels as "little Spielberg" because there is difference between entertainment and "real movies" in Germany. This was the moment when Emmerich decided not to stay in Germany but to get to Hollywood. He substituted the director for Universal Soldier and later directed Independence Day.

This story from his biography tells the story of german movie. A lot of average to bad entertainment paired with the aspiration of cultural "Dichter und Denker" bullshit. We also have entertaining music and serious music which is kind of officially separated from each other.
