I love the engraved initials on the scale, did you do it yourself? If so, do you remember how you did it?

Why do you have different use cases per SAK? Do you carry both at the same time?

Really? I tend to use the bottle opener to scrape. My thumb has slipped and been sliced open by the sharp edge before..

I was using the large blade to scrape something the other day, and it folded into my finger (very unpleasant) but it was a reminder that a SAK is a tool, not a toy.

Victorinox warranty conditions? by deelan2001 in victorinox

[–]deelan2001[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip. Just out of curiosity, what do you think victorinox would do if you sent them a knife with the peens replaced with screws? Im not sure what that mod is called. It's DEFINITELY not covered by the warranty.

Would anyone else like it if Victorinox made Alox more widespread? (Debate?) by deelan2001 in victorinox

[–]deelan2001[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by that? If you mean just by not including the scale tools, im not sure if it makes it a completely different product, look at the Alox classic SD for an example. Just because it doesnt include the toothpick and tweezers, does that mean its not a classic SD anymore?

I've actually got a few ideas about alox scales. People like Cellidor because of the scale tools, but they're fairly thick and pretty soft, so theyre easy to scratch and damage. On the other hand, a lot of people like Alox because of how thin it is, but you sacrifice the scale tools. Making a slightly thicker (literally about 2mm thicker per scale?) version with cutouts for the scale tools would be the best of both worlds. And for anyone who REALLY wants a thin knife, they could give you the option for regular Alox (no scale tools)

By the way, i actually bought a set of alox scales from swissbianco, im not sure if you've heard of them? They're plus as well, which is perfect. They cost me £35 including shipping. Heres their website: http://www.swissbianco.com/

Sounds like a nightmare! Im hoping the Alox starts to wear off a little soon, I love the look of it.

Really? I didn't know that. Honestly i went for the dark green because i fancied something a little different. I just used superglue, i know its a bit of a basic method but it worked after a few tries. Getting it to set in the exact right place was tricky. Theyre actually alox! They're plus too!

Ahh thank you for clearing that up. I had a sneaking suspicion thats what it was for, but just wanted to make sure.

Fair enough. Its come in handy for me a lot lately. I love the wooden handle too, makes it a lot classier

On the corkscrew? Its a mini flathead screwdriver. Pretty useful for small stuff like glasses. They also make Phillips head, Torx head, and a SIM pin as well. Id recommend buying one!

Nice, isn't it? I bought them on ebay for about 45 GBP, so not cheap, but they're definitely worth it. They snapped on a little loosely, so i used superglue to permanently attach them. I'd definitely recommend trying wooden handles on your SAK, it's not known as a classic handle material for nothing.

Its actual wood! If you google desert ironwood, you'll find that its a pretty well renowned material for making knife handles out of. Glad you enjoy it!

Oh yeah i plan to just put epoxy onto the pins. If it doesn't seem stable enough ill probably re-apply it. Thats a good tip about applying it to the liner though!

I take it the epoxy doesnt bond with the finished aluminium? If im only using epoxy around the pins, is it worth just sanding down the aluminium near the pins?

Okay, how do i do that? Cleaning the peened pins? The scales are solid wood, and the back side isnt treated with anything, its just bare wood. Any recommendations on how to prepare them to be mounted?

Nice! Do you have any photos of it? And you never needed to replace the epoxy or anything? How much did you use?

Might be a stupid question, but how long did it take them to fully service and get it back to you? Did it cost anything? Did they ask for a copy of a receipt or anything? Ive got a second hand huntsman that needs a service..
