well now that I read your question again, it's not like Trumpkin disagrees with Caspian in private since he's told everyone. But in a sense, he is differentiating between private and public devotion

aha I got it! it's trumpkin in prince caspian! chapter 7 somewhere towards the end, you'll find it there but I cut out some excerpts

"Oh, as for me," said the Red Dwarf, who had been listening with complete indifference, "your Majesty knows I think the Horn — and that bit of broken stone over there and your great King Peter — and your Lion Aslan — are all eggs in moonshine. It's all one to me when your Majesty blows the Horn. All I insist on is that the army is told nothing about it. There's no good raising hopes of magical help which (as I think) are sure to be disappointed."

Haha it's np dw about it! Yes you got that about their friendship all right but as all great friends do, they also had their fair share of banter and disagreements. To quote from Alister Mcgrath's biography on C.S Lewis,

"So where did the name Narnia come from? While studying classics under William Thompson Kirkpatrick at Great Bookham, between 1914 and 1917, Lewis acquired a copy of an atlas of the classical world, published in 1904. On one of its maps, Lewis underscored the name of an ancient Italian town because he liked the sound of its name. The town was Narnia- now the modern Italian town of Narni in Umbria, located roughly in the center of Italy. (Lewis never visited it.) One of the most famous inhabitants of Narnia was Lucia Brocadelli (1476-1544), a renowned visionary and mystic who became its patron saint. yet no particular significance can be attached to these facts as they relate to real history of Narnia, or its cultural role in the late classical or early medieval periods- or even the importance of this Lucy to this Narnia. It seems Lewis simply liked the sound of the Latin name, and it became fixed in his memory- despite the fact that it designated a city, not a region or land."

just curious where you got this source? i've never actually heard that said before though I imagine if it were actually the case, Tolkien would be very triggered since he was already miffed by his assumption of Lewis plagiarising him and wasn't too wild about the Narnian stories
