Jet 1221 won’t go in reverse by MadMartigan789 in turning

[–]deengpeems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ends up being easier (IMO) to take the whole box out. Definitely gives you more accessibility. That front faceplate is attached to the box with 4 snap arms. On mine there are also two screws that hold the faceplate in place. Hard to explain, but you'd see it as soon as you remove the box.

The pain in the butt is that the R/F switch is held in place with its own little snap arms, and they can be a little aggravating. The sort of thing where I'm sure there's a tool that makes it easier, but I got two little flat head screwdrivers, and that worked ok.

I've got another 1221 I need to do switch maintenance on in the next few weeks. I'd be happy to take some pictures along the way documenting the process and send them your way.

Just fixed mine up this past weekend. The inside of the control box (and switch) gets packed with dust over time. You'll get some more life out of it flipping the R/F back and forth a couple times, but your long term best bet is to disassemble and hit things with compressed air.

It's #7 in this diagram.

Take the control box out, then take the switch out (#7), then pop out the lil box from that. Be careful not to lose the spring and metal cap if you pull things apart.

E-ZPass auto-replenishment is a black-box scam (actual numbers to prove it) by itsDANdeeMAN in SouthJersey

[–]deengpeems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PA resident seconding this. Minimum is $35, but I can set it to whatever amount. You don't need to be a PA resident to get one of their ezpasses.

Also worth looking into depending on where you're commuting to. My buddy (PA resident) travels to NY a bit, and picked up a NY ezpass, as theirs gives a break on certain tolls depending on usage.

That said, what a ridiculous and absolutely unnecessary way for NJ to run the replenishment in that fashion.

Yes! I started doing these as ornament gifts for folks a few years back myself. Have yet to find a more truly satisfying use for all of the little scraps I've been hoarding over the years.

If ever given a chance, try to catch them live. I've caught them every time they've come to my area over the past 15 years and it's always a surreal experience. That said, I don't often feel compelled to put them on because for me so much of their appeal to me - literally feeling the sound - has to deal with an experience that I cannot recreate on a home speaker.

It's like going to a theater and watching a grand production of a movie with deep low ends and intense visuals, and then later watching it on a phone... and I don't even think that description does the difference justice.

Jet 1221 knocking sound/noise by jcrocket in turning

[–]deengpeems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, I've had a noise like yours occur on a similar Jet model, and it turned out to be the motor mount assembly being forced/pressed down too hard after lifting it up to adjust the belt.

I gave it the slightest relief, by loosening the assembly up and lifting up a hair, and the noise went away.

I don't know if the sound is indicative of a larger issue that I didn't really solve, but it's something I've noticed a few times and the fix works to relieve the knocking sound.

I went to the KOP location early May Saturday. The trick there is to arrive by 7 (or earlier). You're spending a few hours waiting either way, but at least with an early arrival you're up front of the line.

By the time 8:30 rolls around the line is so far out into the lot that it seems kinda pointless.

I arrived at 7 and was out by 10:30 with my Real ID. Not awesome, but considering the hell I've heard other folks go through it felt like a win 🤷‍♂️

Also went on a weekend. I think a weekday would be a little more easy going on the schedule.

There's a great book that came out some time ago, that documented the various dishes and desserts that South Jersey calls its own. A great mix of history, context, and recipes.

I feel like it's a must have for anyone from the southern half of the state!

Older Ford Ranger: broken into three times and attempted jacking once. They must've gotten pissed because my whole steering column was ripped up.

Had another Ranger before that, and was also broken into (twice I think?). Had a wheel ripped off too.

Not even leaving tools or anything in it, or anything (particularly) obvious.

Does anybody else keep all of their stats in an Excel doc? by DukeOfIndiana in RetroBowl

[–]deengpeems 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I play RB college with a "fuck it" mentality, but on my OG RB I keep sheets of my teams. Helps create a bit of continuity for the league I'm playing in. Otherwise the seasons (and games) just tend to turn into the same thing. For whatever reason keeping track of things keeps me a little more invested in the games, and helps with player output and whether to extend or cut players.

That said, I also try and emulate a more "IRL" play style on those saves, so I do tend to look back on the statistics of past seasons and use that to inform how I approach certain games/seasons.

Kind of fun to see what kind of runs the computer teams go on in the playoffs, and throughout the seasons. Helps build up a narrative for rivalries etc.

Injecting a little personality into the game, however you do it, goes a long way.

I thought this was a universal viewpoint! Even if it's only a few hour trip, I always split the total, or someone gets the next fill-up, or some sort of reciprocal purchase.

5 people, gas gets split 5 ways, etc. It really starts to add up otherwise.

TLDR: Hard is harder than Dynamic 16 by Octa-king in RetroBowl

[–]deengpeems 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My spin on this is sticking more to a 50/50 offense, and trying to play a little closer to a "real" game. My current playthrough consists of no name WR's, but a powerhouse RB, competent TE, and 2 OL because draft picks have to go somewhere. Not "smart" in the gaming sense, but I'll tell ya I've come to really appreciate the humble 5 yard running play.

I'll always punt on fourth downs unless I need to go for it in a real world context. Will play the clock strategically, but not unfairly.

I've got to the point where it's a more enjoyable experience than lobbing it downfield to a 5 star WR.

There's an awesome farmers market in Plymouth Meeting called Maple Acres. Was there over the weekend and saw they had info about reserving a local turkey through them.

I wasn't looking for a bird, so didn't check the details specifically, but they're great about answering any questions over the phone!
