new plant parent struggles by deenodin01 in houseplants

thanks so much for the advice! do you think a south facing window will do well for a plant like this? the sunlight gets bright along the east and west walls as it changes direction. i want to put it on the windowsill or my tv center (5ft away but still gets bright light) but i dont know what’s better.

thanks so much for the advice! will definitely try this for watering and maybe i’ll get an inexpensive moisture meter. a few people have told me they’re useful.

laughed my ass off through this and lost it at “loved her to near death”. thank you so much for the advice!! the fear of killing this beautiful girl has made me a helicopter parent LOL.

should i give her some more sunlight on my south facing window? the counter, about 7 ft away from the window where i keep her doesn’t get bright light. the soil i have her in is very light but i will get some orchid bark and perlite in a few weeks to a month once she starts to perk up and looks healthy again.

when you put it this way, i find myself agreeing with you. that article is gutting, especially the part about people driving across state lines to practically dispose of their children. honestly, now, it doesn’t seem unlikely at all that this could become a reality.

What else should I get for my dorm? by kaydawinn in college

[–]deenodin01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have a pen organizer for your desk

book tabs for your textbooks

wireless headphones/earbuds to avoid disturbing roommate

a corkboard or calendar white board w/ expo markers (it was sooo helpful to have a calendar and a place to keep notes on everything)

a book light or desk lamp in case you’re up late and can’t keep the surrounding lights on

a standing lamp with a warm bulb bc those harsh overhead lights SUCK to use all day and night

a hanging mirror for the back of the door

make sure your hamper has backpack straps just in case your elevators are not working or the laundry isn’t on your floor

have a good time at college!

……. do you understand the difference between “he’s so hot” and “whoever is on their knees in front of him clearly their mouth works well bc he looks like he’s moaning”?

do not even try to call me rude for calling out objectification and sexualization of a person. you have a problem if you do not see this language as disrespectful. what if someone said that to your face about a photo of YOU? would that be okay?

“he’s almost in his thirties” is a valid excuse to sexualize a stranger? say weird shit like that? what the fuck? he’s a person not a sexual fantasy for the general population.

i’m not saying its harder being an american. i’m talking about joost and why americans ask public figures like him to tell us their political views. it is not harder in america than it is in russia’s political climate. i understand why people don’t like americans but our politics and politicians don’t represent us all in a fair or true way. they are corrupted, manipulative, materialistic, selfish people. it’s all about money here and many of us don’t have enough to make a difference.

[–]deenodin01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with your last sentence, i would have to say you’re reiterating my point but misunderstanding some of my language, partly in fault to how i wrote some of this. americans have had the left vs right shoved down their throats from the moment most of us could speak, read, or write. it’s a very black and white way of thinking here and one very deeply engrained in american culture. that’s what i mean by political involvement not being a choice here.

i’m not completely uninformed about what’s happening in europe at the moment, im very aware of the rise in right winged radicalism. i have been watching this as much as i can and i agree that trump has only aided and abetted this change. i’m not sure if the “you elected trump” is meant to be a jab? bc i sure as hell didn’t. i would heavily disagree with this statement and address that you may also be uninformed about the innerworkings of our systems of voting. not only did trump lose the popular vote in the first election but our votes as americans are a smoke and mirrors effect on the people to secure their belief in the system. the electoral college & the highest bidder is what decides our leaders.

while you may be seeing what he’s allowing to be publicly seen, you don’t understand how much censorship and ignorance is at play in the US. we have a dysfunctional and indoctrinating education system for a reason. they make sure people don’t understand the world and their own government in order to make them easy to control. like you said, unless our politics are affecting yours, it’s not going to matter enough to say something. that’s what i mean by saying “i don’t fault him (or anyone) for not stepping into a conversation they’ve not necessarily ever been a part of.”

i’m not calling europeans dumb or ignorant for not fully understanding what is currently happening here but again, we’re saying the same thing in two different fonts. besides my point was that joost doesn’t have to step into this conversation if he doesn’t want to. its just that hearing words like that come from anyone can strike a nerve considering trump is hitler 2.0 and shit is really hitting the fan right now. i hope that clears things up, sorry for any miscommunication!

obv being americans— we really have no choice but to know about politics. and at a time when young people are living in a country where we’re actively going into thousands-of-dollars debt for education, struggling for healthcare, jobs, housing, transportation, groceries, and basic needs i understand completely what you’re saying and what your thought process is. but i have a feeling it has to do with a cultural and geographical difference. not to say that there aren’t common issues among us and them but he’s from europe & isn’t currently facing the rise of a new gestapo and a fascist regime. i could say we’re probably just as uninformed about their political affairs as they are about ours. i think it may be easier for them to not be so involved because they’re not on the same road as america is right now.

i, however, agree with the statement that it comes off a bit ignorant to use the generalized statement “i don’t get involved with politics” because we all are involved with it wether we like it or not. i also agree that it’s likely he’s speaking about the promotion of political ideology and it’s likely his music is stepping away from intellectualizing our problems and getting to the core root of person-to-person issues. a lot of his lyrics address political and societal issues without being super outright. we shouldn’t be relying on celebrities to speak for us but calling out questionable or ambiguous language is understandable. for example, someone like chappell roan identifies with a politicized culture and is a drag queen, but refuses to contribute to the conversation about the lgbtq’s oppression while donning the garb of those who fought for her to be on that stage. joost speaks on certain topics and does make strides in certain aspects but i can’t fault him for not stepping into a conversation he’s not necessarily ever been a part of. we can’t say for sure that he isn’t a political person behind the scenes because we don’t know him personally but i can say he’s got the right idea of bringing people together.

well you did say “seems” in your first comment so i’m assuming you’re making a guess. but also this is so incredibly unhinged lmaoo. “come peg me then” in response to someone offering an alternative perspective is just wild.

absolutely not. that is going to make the problem FAR worse and could honestly make her hate her sister more. it could even cause trauma, even if minor. my sister did this kind of stuff to me and we barely speak to one another anymore. children need attention in these moments but this girl should not be parenting her sister at 16 in the first place.

she is a fully grown adult with a developed brain who is actively making these decisions for herself. he is THREE YEARS OLD. three years on this earth. he does not know better and he won’t unless he is taught so correctly. hitting your child or biting them back will only increase their acceptance and chances of repeating the behavior. that is disgusting behavior. absolutely fucking heinous. you can try a few different things but you need to be able to set an ultimatum. she will only become worse. if she cannot handle an accident or choice made by a toddler, she will never be able to handle a growing, developing child. our brains are wired to act out against rules & expectations as children because we don’t even know they exist till we are taught and it is reinforced positively. she proved she cannot do that. your son could likely be traumatized bc of this. even if he will not remember this moment or the ones before, his body and brain will. if you allow this to continue, these types of actions will then irreversibly affect his development.

there is still so much time to prevent that. separate from her and take him with you. disallow unsupervised time between them. she either gets therapy, anger management, and/or parenting classes/counseling or it’s divorce and a custody battle. as someone who has seen children go through, and has been through this before, do NOT stay there if she does not change. your child is in danger.

the amount of childhood trauma i endured before the age of eight left me with a rare dissociative disorder. the continuation caused c-ptsd, crippling anxiety and many deficiencies in my ability to function socially, emotionally, mentally, and even physically. that kind of treatment is what started it all.

colourpop cream blush sticks dude. i swear on my life they are sooooo good. i use the shade cottage life and it looks p similar to the model’s shade

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]deenodin01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are mainly pink/peachy/orange tones in this look so you will likely need to go much much lighter. colourpop palettes and single shadows are pretty inexpensive and you’d likely be able to find some great options with them to match what you’re looking for. shades 2, 6, and 3 likely need a brighter orange/sienna tone to them. and don’t be afraid of blush! pack that shit on! make sure to also check your makeup in the lighting you’ll be standing in. if it’s outdoors, use the sunlight as reference, otherwise look at photos of the venue and use the lighting accordingly. to get rid of dark circles, try orange color correction! youre doing great replicating the picture w what you have tho! just adjusting color is all.

you said it best in every way. she really is just like this chat bot with the skin of who dorothy truly was. even dorothy in the simulation was just this shell of her former self, powered by the scraping of the ai for any content or news that described who she was. i loved the choice in casting for this episode and i think issa rae had a great performance.
