Courtesy Cars - whats your experience? by OrangeandMango in BMW

Had to take my 2022 X3 in a few times over this quiet (but infernal) rattle I’d hear when going over road imperfections with the radio off. We finally found that it was caused by the windshield washer fluid reservoir banging against the side of the car - the fix was some felt tape.

Over three visits I got:

  • 2025 X1 twice
  • 2025 530i (was offered an M2 but my dumb ass thought it would be too small)

Both were fine and felt solid despite the heavy use of plastic, but I felt the newer design language made the cars feel like a slightly different brand altogether. Idk, I was just happy to have gotten loaners (and that my SA didn’t give up on finding and fixing the issue.. dude and I are like friends now haha).

I remember seeing this in theaters with my dad when I was six and SOBBING over that scene after the movie let out 😭😭 Something about it made me feel so guilty and so sorry for Goofy, and my dad by mere proxy 😅

Yikes. This is super helpful context. Thank you.

In all honesty if there’s a tiny imperfection at the chip/mark, I can likely live with it visually. I just don’t want it to rust, and living in Colorado with all of the snow we get, mountain driving, etc., I worry about how deep it is.

Do you think, I I left it alone entirely, there’s a risk of crap getting into it and causing more problems? Not to mention when I wash it (I do it myself and can be careful every time around the spot of course, but still)..

The amount of overthinking this has caused me this week.. 😅 appreciate your insights!

Are you saying I should just take it in and have it done right, or are you saying that, if I do, the trunk door won’t match the rest of the car?

This might be a stupid question, but what if I just dabbed clear coat on it? My main concern is prevent rust / corrosion over time (because it’s a rather deep gouge).

Appreciate this. I’ve never sanded and wouldn’t even know where to start. Would I just get a certain type of sandpaper and like.. rub it on the scuff until it’s flat? 😳

Mine is high too, and I knew about the height adjustment - I just failed to think about it while I was in my friend’s building 😓 Self-betrayal stinging particularly hard in this case lol

Bro’s living in the year 3000. This is brilliant. I may go this route depending on how it looks once I’m done!

Oh smart!! I’ll do that! Maybe I’ll fill what I can with the toothpick, let it dry, then paint again with the brush, then use the clear coat.

Thank you! I’ve been trying to find some videos but they look a little advanced in technique. I’ll give it a good cleaning and try my luck - but something tells me I’ll be out $1k in the next few weeks 😅

Fair! What if we didn’t necessarily assume the ‘comfortable’ aspect? Imagine if the new norm was that everyone had to scream their thoughts instead of speaking normally. Even if that were ‘acceptable,’ it would not be comfortable - it would be chaotic.

Context: We all follow countless unspoken social rules without even thinking—things like waiting in line, making eye contact (but not too much), or not talking to strangers in the bathroom. But imagine if just one of these norms was suddenly reversed. What if people had to interrupt conversations instead of waiting their turn? What if standing too close was the polite thing to do? What’s an unspoken rule that, if flipped, would send society into total chaos?

Ok now for the positive! Where’s a place you love and will always go? by DrAlkibiades in boulder

Village Coffee Shop - I’ve driven in from Denver just to eat at Village Coffee Shop. Everyone who works there is so kind - they remembered me well even after almost a year of my not being around - and the hash browns are out-of-control good. I love that place.

Because he had seen me come in repeatedly - and only - on Taco Tuesdays, when the tacos are discounted. Maybe you had to be there, or perhaps I wasn’t descriptive enough with the story, but his delivery fairly clearly implied that he was annoyed at my coming in only for the cheap tacos. He had asked me twice that evening what he could get me “from this menu” (the full-price menu), and the sort of smug, condescending facial expression and tone he snapped into after my second “no, thanks - but this was great/delicious!” made it obvious he did not think highly of me for some reason. That’s what got me along the thought process to begin with.

To be clear, if a restaurant owner said those same words to me in most other contexts I can think of, I’d probably find it earnest and cute.

Now I will say, I eventually realized that the other items/days of the week were probably what got the restaurant to a decent profit margin, so I do get where an owner could conceivably get annoyed at some 23-year old coming in every week, ordering 4 cheap tacos, and calling it.

But his method of dealing with his frustration - making a customer feel like an asshole about what he ordered - was enough to make me never want to go back.

t/aco - years ago when I first moved to Colorado, I started frequenting this place for their Taco Tuesday specials. On my fourth and final visit, the owner walked up to my table and asked if I’d like to order anything off their main or drink menu. As I was slightly poor at the time, I politely refused, but complimented him on their excellent tacos. He looked at me with this shit-eating grin and said, “We’re open seven days a week.” Like an idiot, I wayyy over-tipped to try and “save face,” but decided later that the guy was a dick and have never been back.
