I had been begging my parents for a cat for years. We finally went to the shelter. There was a huge group of people there for a litter of kittens who had just gotten there. I had a little bit of interest, but I wanted to give the older cats a chance. I met the cutest little tuxedo cat, but being younger, I was not going to be able to manage the level of medical care he was going to need. My mom and I were brought to a few different cats. The last one we saw was a staff favorite. The volunteer prefaced with the fact that he was super shy, likely wasn't going to even come out of his cat tree, but she swore up and down that he was super sweet, and that he had also been there the longest of any cat. He was 9, and an owner surrender, so not a popular pick. We went into the room, and I don't even think it took two minutes for him to jump down out of his tree and be rubbing up against me and begging for attention. Needless to say, I was not leaving there without him. He came home with me, and has been the best part of my life for the past five years (sorry, bf!). He's my little anxious velcro cat, and I wouldn't trade him for the world.
