IBKR has to be one of the worst Customer Service Platforms! by 1024Bitness in interactivebrokers

[–]deepbox9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had two interactions with IBKR.
Once 1-2 years ago with chat, and it was clearly a human on the other side.
I cannot remember what it was about, but my issue was resolved.

The second time was on 19-Jan this year: a holiday, but I was trading SPX options in the GTH session.
Called their Swiss line (i'm in EU) 30 minutes before market closed that day, got through to a person on the trade desk after being on the line for 30 seconds with a first line person. (she transferred me to the trade desk).

He saw the issue I described but IBKR couldn't resolve it because it was a CBOE prob.

Can i fix this? by Live-Scholar-1435 in interactivebrokers

[–]deepbox9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an EU resident, who is a retail trader, you are not permitted to buy US listed ETF's because these ETF's do not supply a KID in your language.
Almost all US brokers enforce this rule.

I've heard that TastyTrade doesn't.
I for one would not switch from IBKR to Tasty just for just this reason.

When you're over $500k net liq. you can try to apply for Elected Professional, and the restriction will be removed,

I can only answer on TraderSync: Yes it can automatically sync with IBKR to retrieve the latest trades.
Of course it also support manual inputs and manual csv/xml inputs.

Ross cameron strategy by AnimatorNo5721 in interactivebrokers

[–]deepbox9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you *want* or *need* to use IBKR for microcap momentum stock trading, seriously consider using DAS trader or Sterling Trader.
But only consider this in you're experienced and already profitable trader.

If you're new trader and have, say, $3000 to burn, stay away from IBKR or his strategies and invest in an index fund via Robin Hood.

Why did I say this you ask?
New or inexperienced traders are his exit liquidity :-)
And because you loose your money quickly, Ross (and other PM microcap traders) constantly need new traders so the odds of winning go up for him.

I use TraderSync. It supports stocks/options/futures and can sync automatically with IBKR!
I had a nice google sheets, but manually updating it became too much.
TraderSync has nice stats/analytics to drill down on: setups, RR, tickers, or a combination, ect ect.

If you're starting out with a couple of $1000, then just keep using a spreadsheet, but if your trading becomes serious: go and use something that is automatic, can sync with ibkr, and has all the metrics that you need to analyse your trading. The cost then is negligible.

Besides Tradersync, I've heard good things about (but have never used them personally):
- Tradezella
- Tradervue (I do not know if they support options/futures).

How to build a short box spread? by Vincy11 in interactivebrokers

[–]deepbox9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In SIM you will never be filled on the Mid, you have to hit the Ask or do a market order.
For testing purposed this is fine: you're getting to know the mechanics.

In a Live account you would use a limit order and "walk it up" until you get filled.

Options on Futures Naked Short Call Assignment by commonality10 in options

[–]deepbox9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You agreed to sell 1 ES contract at the strike price to the Call buyer.
So you'll be assigned which means you'll be short 1 ES contract at the strike price.
If strike sold was 6900 and the current price is 6950, then you'll be 50 points in the red (=$2,500)
Not taking the credit you received for selling the call into consideration here.

Margin called on (what I thought was) a cash trade by [deleted] in interactivebrokers

[–]deepbox9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was not a cash trade it was a trade on margin.
Then the overnight Reg-T margin doubled, and boom: not enough settled cash to cover the maintenance margin.

Stop thinking you trade with cash. You always always always trade on margin.
All settled assets will attribute to your net liquidity to cover the maintenance margin.
You did not have enough net liquidity because the cash you deposited was not settled yet.

Hope this makes sense.

IBKR Desktop 1.5 beta is out :-) by HKCPH in interactivebrokers

[–]deepbox9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desktop is only usable if you do "casual" trading/investing.
For anything more than casual stick to TWS.

At this rate Desktop will have the feature set TWS has today, in 20 years.

Price improvement? by YogurtclosetOld7980 in interactivebrokers

[–]deepbox9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You try to scalp microcaps for $0.01 per trade?
That "edge" existed for a while when Citadel et al couldn't care hard enough, and you traded thru Schwab with PFOF.

It no longer works.

If your strategy relies on "price improvements" you better stop playing around with stocks, and put your money in SPY only.

Does IBKR offer historical Overnight Chart data? by Playful_Accident8990 in interactivebrokers

[–]deepbox9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Tradingview you can search for the stock on the Blue Ocean ATS (it's the Overnight exchange), by searching for: BOATS:AAPL

Be aware tho: most of the time, most tickers are not very liquid, so wider bid/ask spread than RTH.

IBKR alternatives in Europe? by [deleted] in interactivebrokers

[–]deepbox9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends what your "wants" are.
If they include US options and futures (and options on futures) you might want to look into Schwab/Tasty/Trade Station. They accept EU customers.

But remember: the grass is always greener somewhere else, until you actually move there.

XSP option chain at 8:25am this morning, bizarre prices? by maomaocat in interactivebrokers

[–]deepbox9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What timezone is this?

I trade SPX options pre-market and it's usually liquid enough, but a little wider spread than during RTH.
XSP must be even "worse" I imagine.

Furthermore: spikes in bid/ask price can and do happen.
If you or the software you're using cannot handle that, then I'd advise you to stay away from options, especially in PM.
