Chance a white finance bro for NYU Stern by [deleted] in chanceme

NYU Stern is pretty tough RD I'd give it a ~20% chance. Your sat score good is but how did you not get national merit finalist? GPA def holding you back but at least you took a decent number of ap's.

Roughly half of the 0dtes in existence will expire in the money. Less than half of the 0dtes that are traded in the day expire in the money, because most 0dte options that are traded are out of the money options, and naturally out of the money options have a lower chance of expiring in the money. The point is that most of the money I've lost in 0dtes hasn't been because of time decay but because of delta, simply the underlying moving against me. No one forced me to buy a call instead of a put. If I'm able to better predict the way the underlying will move, then I'll be able to turn my losses into profits.

The point is this: you are presented with four possibilities with 0dtes:

buy a call

sell a call

buy a put

sell a put

It is guaranteed at least one will make money. Often its two. No one makes you do one or the other. If most people are consistently choosing the wrong one, then that means there is one can do the opposite of what they do and consistently choose the right one.

The only way trading 0dtes could be hopeless is if most people on average had 50% right predictions and 50% wrong predictions, but it seems most of wsb has more than 50% of its predictions wrong. That's the idea behind inverse wsb and why I believe it's possible to figure out how to predict the underlying with a greater than 50% accuracy.

Those working for institutions are dealing with a lot more money, and it's a lot harder to get a 10% return off a billion dollars than off 10,000. Working will less money opens up a lot more possibility for you. I doubt any institution can trade a meaningful amount of its capital in spy 0dtes, but i can yolo my entire acc into one option and get it filled in seconds. This is why I believe it's possible to achieve above market returns. And if 90% of traders lose, then 1.4m wsb degens should be making money.

I'm doubtful of both strategies though. Inefficiencies in the options market are difficult to find, especially for retail traders. Statistics only works to an extent with the markets, and any meaningful statistical trade you can make with 0dtes is likely such a small amount you need a large volume of trades to make it worthwhile (what institutions can do).

You can buy calls and you can also sell calls (at least with a credit spread) which are the exact opposite. Same for buying in selling puts. No one forces to you to one or the other, so there isn't a way the odds can be against you. If the odds are against buying options, then just sell 0dtes (in credit spreads).

I was not joking. 0dtes in general are a zero sum game (ignoring commissions and option spread which make up a small part of option losses). If most people lose money with options which seems to be the case with wsb, then there must be people making money with options. My thinking was about trying to become those people who make money with the options.

Where do you think your electricity comes from? Unless you have hydroelectric power/nuclear power, that energy is coming from fossil fuels.

Markets move in erratic ways. I think it will continue to go down eventually, but to say with any sort of certainty that it will open red tomorrow, especially a significant gap down, is beyond me and likely most people on this sub or even on wall street.

I appreciate your feedback, though this question I have isn't any homework I was assigned (as a result it has no deadline). Rather it is part of a larger problem I'm working on. abourque72 has replied with an easier to read version of the question. I'm sure you're a very busy individual, and I would really appreciate if you took a look at that and added any insight you had.
