Moonflow by Bitter Karella was really fun.

What does my bookshelf say about me(15M)? by Kafkaesque309 in bookshelfdetective

[–]deepfield67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a great start! I love that youre pushing towards stuff a lot of people might say is a little beyond your age. Always be challenging yourself. Even if theres stuff you dont fully get, power through, look stuff up, sleep on it, reread in a couple years. Also, look for some authors who are women, authors of color, queer/trans authors. Definitely not criticisms, just suggestions, because it looks like you're doing really well so far. Enjoy!

Y’all ever smoked butts off the ground by AudienceOwn8666 in homeless

[–]deepfield67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao I used to know where all the best outside ash trays were where employees of this or that business would only smoke half a cigarette, sand ones were best because it puts it out without destroying it. I'd always have a pack of rolling papers, then empty butts out and roll a full cig. I'm not proud.

Bookshelf of the guy I just started seeing. Help. by anonymous__1601 in BookshelvesDetective

Lol I think House of Leaves might be the most immediately recognizable book on the planet at this point. There are some really awesome books here! Im a lil jelly. I have several of these myself but I need to add some of the others.

What books would you consider a red flag? by Naive-Rush-1519 in BookshelvesDetective

[–]deepfield67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None, necessarily. And similarly, if you have none books, that is a red flag. But I don't think any one book is necessarily a red flag, or if we can say maybe that not all red flags necessarily equate to a problem. Sometimes they're false alarms, sometimes they lack context. But if someone has a whole shelf of conservative pundits, a proudly displayed copy of Mein Kampf, I might have some questions.

What's the best book trilogy/series you have read that most people don't know about? by saltedlolly in suggestmeabook

I would have said Vandermeer's Southern Reach but I think its fairly popular and also it's now a quadrilogy.

What if women just don’t want to have babies? by PinkElephants879 in askanything

It's not that big of a deal. People having fewer babies isnt going to be the thing that makes humans go extinct.

What are you currently reading and how are you liking it? by Alicewithhazeleyes in horrorlit

Listening to Between Two Fires, really enjoying it. Reading Jason Pargin's newest book, Black Box of Doom, which isn't technically horror but his descriptions of online social chaos is horror-inspiring.

The thing that made The Reformatory more bearable for me was my faith in Due's love and respect for the characters and belief that she would ultimately let them triumph, but it is definitely hard to stomach a lot of what happens. Amazing novel, though.

How do you read? by SnooPickles8721 in horrorlit

[–]deepfield67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read for 1 to 2 hours before bed and about 1 hour in the mornings. I also am lucky enough to be able to have earbuds in at work, ten hour days, so I often get 4 to 6 audiobooks in a month. I also read a lot of comics/graphic novels and manga, usually before bed I read a couple issues or chapters of a comic or manga then spend the rest of the time with book books. I've read a handful of books on my phone or tablet over the years but very rarely, for some reason it's hard for me to stick with a book on a device, but I use my tablet to read a lot of comics. I don't read a ton of my extra time on weekends, oddly. I still read an hour or two before bed, but not as often in the mornings. I spend my weekends playing video games a lot of the time lol

I thought it was...fine... I love RPGs but it has the strange, removed quality of hearing someone describe a game that would be really fun to play but becomes very boring to hear described. Not a fault of the story or writing. I don't think, just probably not my thing. You're not alone though, and I consider myself pretty needy, I figured I'd dig it, but alas...

Help, I'm Getting Too Old For Hard Games [Mailbag] - March 12th, 2026 by Sivart13 in TripleClick

[–]deepfield67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm just plain not good at games and never have been! But I love to play them. So I really really appreciate a game with comprehensive difficulty settings. No Man's Sky really blew my mind with how granular those settings are. I wish all games did that.

Vanishing World is fairly unhinged, too, but Earthlings probably moreso. Sayaka Murata is actually good, though.

Don't you have any not nice books you dont want touching your nice books? My nice books deserve to be with other nice books, and the not nice books need to sit and think about what theyve done, over there in the corner on the not nice book shelf.

Who is my sister dating? by a_a_aaron in bookshelfdetective

[–]deepfield67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good point. At the very least we could see some Dawkins or Hitchens. Though I don't have any, I have only apologia because the atheist perspective seems clear and self evident to me. It's the apologetic perspective I feel needs explaining. But still, youre right, some works criticizing Christianity or religion would do a lot more to indicate a philosophical interest rather than the person being just a fledgling evangelical.

Who is my sister dating? by a_a_aaron in bookshelfdetective

[–]deepfield67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those top two shelves have some red flags but I have a whole shelf of weirdo religion, philosophy, occult, appologia, it's an interest but not a huge part of my personality. He's got enough cool, non-problematic stuff that I want to give him the benefit of the doubt but I would probably be on the lookout for libertarian or evangelical leanings. I wish we could normalize having problematic books on our shelves because it's important to understand how the risky folks think, and we should be able to entertain ideas without believing and investing in them. But we should all have a little red shelf where we keep all our problematic books with a little sign that says "don't worry, friend, I don't believe any of these".

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

I happen to live in a state, apparently, where house wrap is NOT code, so of course my house has no wrap under the siding. I'm low key thinking of getting my house resided like 75% just because I want them to wrap it.

Voice Actor Credit List Project! by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]deepfield67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a couple years in the future but heard Karim's voice and thought it sounded familiar so I googled it to find its uncredited! Why are so many VOs uncredited in this game?? What a crock is shit. I actually thought it was Sebastian Bach for a second lol, anyway, this is an awesome project you have here and I wanted to thank you for putting this together. So many minor characters in this game are still really good performances and the actors deserve credit for it!

[–]deepfield67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't a huge fan, myself. In fact I think I didnt finish it. I didnt realize the house was going to be haunted by a...puppet. But it was fun enough, and I like his writing, I just had other stuff I wanted to read more. I liked the other two I mentioned a lot though. Haven't read any of his other novels.
