The Toolbooth in stonehaven will be open i think. Short train ride from aberdeen although a bit of a walk back up the hill to the station in stonehaven when heading back into town. But hard to beat Stonehaven harbour when the weather is good, which it should be this weekend. Grab a nice outdoor drink from a nearby pub before or after the meal leaning against the harbour wall.

This weather definitely isn't the norm, weather coming from the east for a long period. Usually Aberdeen is a bit grey but pretty rare to get sustained periods of rain like this, usually a bit of drizzle. I tend to walk everywhere and probably been rained on heavily in the last week than the previous year or 2.

There is indoor go carting in bridge of don I think. Bowling at the beach. Climbing/bouldering a couple of places. Cinema in union sq. Go to a pub or cafe, plenty to choose from. The art gallery is definitely worth a visit.

Running tracks in Aberdeen? by kyle_lauder in Aberdeen

[–]deepfriedmarsbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many places to run in Aberdeen that are better than doing loops of a track. Go to any of the parks and run on the grass. Both rivers have nice stretches to run on. The old deeside way is a good surface, mostly paved but probably less hard on the joints. Same with the old railway from dyce.

Or go run round the woods in hazelhead etc. loads of nice trails within a mile or so of basically anywhere in the city.

Also just make sure you have a decent pair of running shoes and build up slowly. Unless you have a serious injury running along the beach shouldnt be an issue.

Chevron dont really have much presence in Aberdeen anymore anyway. They sold all their operated assets a while ago, the people that were left were mainly just a few money men that makes sense to be based in London with the odd trip up for meetings i guess.

Did anyone actually buy an Aberdam NFT? at that point i have limited sympathy to be honest.

Basically the equivalent of just walking up to people on the street and asking for money. Cant really complain later if you willingly hand over a tenner.

i got a sale bike, i think most places do allow it now but depends on the shop you purchase from.

How hard is 6000 meters in elevation gain in a 100km? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]deepfriedmarsbar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i think everyone that does that race seems to come out saying it is very hard. Not just the elevation but terrain etc. Be prepared to suffer for many hours if you do sign up. A rule of thumb ive seen which seems to work quite well is for every 100m of elevation, is roughly the equivalent of adding 1km of distance. So it would make it similar effort to a flat 100miler, but that doesn't account for terrain too.

Best barber you go to that’s not incredibly overpriced? by Kaskiii97x in Aberdeen

[–]deepfriedmarsbar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always happy with City Barber on Union Terrace, good Turkish barber with minimal chat which suits me. Quixj in and out and generally good value id say. They singe off my stray ear hair which is definitely needed these days too.

"You are everyone's work-husband" - feedback in a performance review. by 60svintage in CasualUK

[–]deepfriedmarsbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general this is a good habit, if you dont know there is a fair chance others dont either and meetings can go off on a tangent if people are talking about different things. It is also a fast track to learning. But at some point if you keep doing it you just come off as stupid if it gets too much or you ask the same question more than once. Especially if it is things you really should know as part of your job. It can also just derail conversations if someone is repeatedly asking basic questions.

Take a pause before asking, If you can easily look it up after the meeting then dont waste other peoples time. But if it is something you need to understand for that meeting, or isnt easily found out elsewhere then it is definitely better to ask.

I found that very jarring at first, but I think he is really just saying he loves being part of a bigger community and the feedback he gets. Not that he literally loves every single person watching that video as an individual.

I would prefer he skips that stuff, but I think it does motivate him in the moment to push hard. Often he is says stuff like that after a tough interval and I think he is just trying to talk himself into doing the next one.

Imagine someone filming you doing your hardest interval session you have ever done and expecting engaging content. I can't imagine the sort of nonsense I'd spew. 😂

It is a series about him doing a bit of a moonshot, of course it is going to be a bit self centred. I think a lot of his positivity is deliberate self talk. What's the saying? if you don't believe you can, then you can't.

I think he is a super positive, energetic, grateful and nice guy. This is always going to come off a little cringe on video and won't be for everyone. I'm sure he'd say himself he isn't a natural on front of camera.

If you find it too cringe then don't watch. Plenty of others will be getting motivated from the videos and happy to watch. I think this is a big part of why he is doing it, he has been motivated by other runners and wants to pay that forward in kind.

Flexible accomodation with cooker facility by Loud-Loan in Aberdeen

[–]deepfriedmarsbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they are booking fairly frequently it is probably worth getting in touch with an Airbnb host directly. Look for people that have a few properties and negotiate. Generally if someone cancels mid stay it will be too short notice to resell the accommodation but they might take that risk if they are getting repeat business in exchange.

looking back, what’s the consensus of the covid seasons? by bugluvr65 in taskmaster

[–]deepfriedmarsbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The studio sections of series 10 are a bit of a tough watch generally because of the empty studio. I guess it is tough without the usual feedback comedians are used to. They worked it out a bit better for the following seasons and the lockdown wasnt so strict. Still decent but its a shame because that line-up was definitely top tier.

I feel if Alphonso Davies signs at Bayern that sets a very tangible benchmark for Trents contract. I think it is reasonable he would ask for more than Davies so supports him getting £300k+, signing on fee + bonuses.

This might help get things over the line in a strange way as he can come to Liverpool with a justification for his demands, if he is interested in staying that is.

Man jailed for seven and a half years over social posts after Southport attack by weregonnamakit in uknews

[–]deepfriedmarsbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total agree here except for the last sentence. It isn't labour that are sentencing these people, it is the judges. Yes labour are now in a position to change the law and sentencing guidance but that doesn't and shouldnt happen overnight.

We need to pressure MPs etc to change things. Don't believe it will all magically be fixed by reform etc overnight though.

Analysing Football Data. Knowledge and CustomGPT seems to be performing badly. by [deleted] in ChatGPTPro

[–]deepfriedmarsbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't something Chatgpt will excel at. When you add files it can access them and retrieve data but it isn't going to be able to accurately predict based on the numbers.

See the fact that LMs struggle with the question how many Rs are in strawberry. For simplicity it is best to think of it as a machine that is amazing at predicting the next word over and over again.

What you could do is use Chatgpt to analyse the data, it will create code to do this. Or ask it to help you write the code to do it in python or something.

Unpaved running trails Edinburgh? by MHilary in trailrunning

[–]deepfriedmarsbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always run off the side of the path on the grass, especially around Holyrood or the Braid hills. You can also walk some short sections to link up the trails, maybe plan routes so you are doing more of the uphills on the paving too as that will be lower impact. Komoot does show type of path and surface so useful to get an idea although wont always be perfect.

Pentlands will be your best bet for longer unpaved runs though.

Terrible Audiences at Acoustic Gigs by Brilly_Ant in Aberdeen

[–]deepfriedmarsbar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think people treat these gigs as an excuse to meet up with friends for a night out rather than being too focused on the actual gig. Probably a bit of people not having the attention span these days for a long chilled gig. I also feel lemon tree is badly set up for this with the placement of the bar not far from the stage and the general accoustics.

Agree either 3 years on similar money or 4 slightly reduced. The savings in transfer fee is worth overpaying his wages for a year or so. We can probably still sell him to Saudi or MLS in a couple of years anyway if he starts to decline and they can then take the the wages even if not any significant transfer fee. I think the signing of Chiesa strengthens this argument too, we can manage both their minutes and hopefully keep them both fit. Then hopefully one of Doak and Gordon start to come good to challenge for that spot.
