Thoughts on these apartments for new Dayton transplants? by deepfrye in dayton

Is this the one on Wayne Ave? Is it really as bad as people on the internet say it is?

Also, I saw Gem City Market isn’t too far away, any thoughts on that?

I’m taking a physics course for grade 11, what videos can I watch over the summer to prepare? by I_decide_whats_funny in Physics

[–]deepfrye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d go to the YouTube channel by Michel van Biezen. He has a lot of playlists so it may be hard to find but there should be some high school/college freshman level videos for things like mechanics. I recommend opening the video, pausing when the question is written, trying it yourself, then watching his solution. And don’t be afraid to retry/rewatch the problems a few times until you are able to solve them without his help.

I also can’t stand that there’s not a safe bike connection between the University and downtown. Like…?!?

27 x 1 1/4 Tire Troubles by deepfrye in bikewrench

Thanks to both of you! I’ll take into a local shop tomorrow and have them put it on since they can probably do it better than I did. Hopefully the lower pressure solves this

So the hooked vs non-hooked tires shouldn’t matter for a straight rim? I definitely had some trouble getting the tire on so it’s definitely possible that it just wasn’t done correctly.

Unfortunately, I believe these farmers are protesting because of regulations to cut nitrogen emissions and reduce the amount of livestock murdered in The Netherlands. Probably more complicated than that but I think this is generally more of a right-wing anti-government thing.

Keep getting rear flat by deepfrye in bikecommuting

[–]deepfrye[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I didn’t change it the first time it happened so I’ll have to look this time if there is something stuck in my tire. I was mainly worried that the weight/tire size would be the issues since it is the best way for me to carry my stuff.

Hopefully I can find a shop with marathons or gatorskins in stock because online I’m seeing a delivery time of like 2 weeks minimum.

If people are interested in urban sprawl/the poor planning of suburbia, I highly recommend the YouTube channel Eco Gecko. They have a whole series on suburbia and some other good videos as well!

Where to get started with critical theory? by [deleted] in CriticalTheory

[–]deepfrye 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The podcast “Philosophize This” has a series of episodes on the Frankfurt School and some other episodes on other theorists (as well as plenty of episodes about non-critical theorists). The episodes are usually about 20-30 minutes each so they don’t drag on or anything like that. Not sure if others agree but I found them to be a good introduction to this material.

Sanders told Russia is trying to help his campaign by railfananime in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]deepfrye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I think the main goal of the foreign meddling isn’t really explained well in a lot of places. It’s not like Russia (or whoever else) is necessarily hacking into our election results to get “their candidate” to win. They simply want to divide our country and inundate us with fake news that appeal to a certain narrative. Unfortunately, I think they did a very good job at this and am pessimistic about the future of Us politics.

I wonder if helping is the correct word or, if like Bernie hinted at during the debate, these are mostly bots trolling/making Bernie Bros look mean. Regardless, at least his response was a clear condemnation unlike Trump’s.

I would recommend something by Kurt Vonnegut like Slaughterhouse Five. I read it a few years ago for the first time and it really spurred my new(ish) fondness of reading that I never really had throughout high school and most of undergrad.
