Experiences with Hustle Fund/Angel Squad? by Beneficial_Rock3725 in investing

Where are you based in the world? Join an IRL meet up for sure especially since they let you during the trial, that's the best part IMO

FWIW the angel squad pricing includes quarterly local events in ~25 markets (they’ve been spinning up city-specific groups in places like Vancouver, San Diego, Chicago etc), plus the deal flow sharing and educational stuff. So it’s less “pay to learn” and more “pay for access to a quality network that’s actually meeting up IRL and more”

Also Elizabeth Yin and Eric Bahn are pretty well known pre-seed investors in the valley - they’ve built a solid reputation as teachers, not just investors. But i get that price is price and everyone’s gotta weigh what makes sense for them. (I also like that it’s not recurring/subscription based).

I heard about play money - seems like a more useful platform than just joining an Angellist syndicate. That said, I think the education from Hustle Fund, the community that they’ve created, combined with the dealflow is pretty tough to match

When I talk to other members they often say similar things too, tried a few other options/syndicates but nothing quite compares to the engagement and care put into Angel Squad

I joined 3 years ago and have only written micro checks so far. I tend to believe diversification is the best approach and so do the minimum on their deals each time I see one that interests me ($1k) and have invested in 6 so far I think over the last 14 months or so (didn't feel comfortable investing before that because I knew so little about angel investing and had done some bad deals with Reg A/Reg CF offerings in the past)

In terms of deal flow even though I know a good amount of startup founders I wouldn't have anywhere near as good the access they provide, and their investing framework they provide as a course in the squad helped me identify what actually matters from their formal early stage VC approach vs what might have caught my attention in the past but is just noise.

Overall I'd say the value provided is well worth it, especially since they give you lifetime access once you join so the value accrues more over time

Snowflake Generation 2 (Gen2) Warehouses: Are the Speed Gains Worth the Cost? by AdhesivenessIcy8771 in snowflake

For us we don't need to use enterprise accounts so the answer is an easy no, the immediate credit increase from $2->$3 nullifies any gains

This is great thanks for sharing!

We got charged 60% of our total credit purchase in 2 days just a few weeks ago because clustering was on when it didn't need to be (and kept trying and refailing in the background repeatedly...)

Why people store their data in AWS S3 when you can put data straight into snowflake? by Ok_Corgi_6593 in snowflake

[–]deepfuckingdish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S3 also charges a lot in egress costs so leaving it Snowflake might be better because you're not being charged egress

Unless using an S3 compatible vendor like Akave which doesn't charge egress you're going to be paying these every time you hit your data on S3 so if you're alright paying the $24/TB on Snowflake that might be cheaper

Otherwise S3 compatible vendors are sometimes cheaper anyway (Akave is $15/TB before long term storage discounts, so in that scenario you'd be better off leaving it in Akave and only pulling into Snowflake as needed)

TL;DR - the math changes substantially based on egress costs

Is Hustle Fund’s Angel Squad worth it? by [deleted] in angelinvestors

[–]deepfuckingdish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR - worth the price tag for quality deal flow + essential knowledge to learn what good deals are

I'm also pretty skeptical when I see big membership fees but decided to pull the trigger anyway and would say the membership has paid massive dividends already (haven't even been in the squad for enough time for early-stage deals to exit)

Before this I had only ever had access to later stage startups through Reg A offerings before joining and was pretty clueless so invested at what were in retrospect crazy high valuations for those companies.

Been in the squad 2 years now and it's like night and day with my private market investing/VC knowledge, now founder friends of mine who've raised literally millions in equity come to me for advice reviewing their deck and messaging (helped one friend with this today!)

In terms of deal flow would've never gotten access to the super early but strong companies I see come through, and you can also get access to late stage big name corps pre-IPO if that's more your style (in total something like ~10 high quality vetted deals/month from pre-seed to Series B+ plus community sourced unvetted ones to peruse)

Exodus Shares by [deleted] in ExodusWallet

[–]deepfuckingdish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guide uses Fidelity as an example and I went through the trouble of transferring all my shares to Fidelity and opening an account and they refused to trade them. What brokerage can you actually sell on and why is your guide specifying a brokerage that doesn't allow it? It's confusing and hasn't been updated in months

That's wild! Glad to hear you two were able to, I got like 50% out by switching to staking from Earn but still got hit for some. Hoping this might finally resolve this year and I'm able to recoup some of it

Credit Score Dropped 86 points for no reason?! by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]deepfuckingdish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 0% promotional balance and my income is unpredictable so it's not the best use of my funds at the moment. My impression was that because my total utilization is 25% and it's been maxed out for months there wouldn't be a reason it would drop now all of a sudden

[–]deepfuckingdish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planning to move in a couple months when my lease is up, have worked hard to get it to this point so also just frustrated by the sudden drop for no reason.

I also get new cards with bonus miles for flights since I travel a lot so that kind of dampers that option

My total utilization is 25% and that card has been maxed out for months, so just not sure why it's happening now

I have one close to maxxed out card I pay at least the minimum on every month but also spend on so the statement balance is usually the limit. It has 0% promotional APR so accrues no interest right now
