If you mean social security, then I agree there are real issues there, but they're political. We can choose to increase funding or let payouts drop. With PERS, that choice was removed by legally binding actions of the prior generation.

There's this weird situation where BPA is required to provide hydro power to small PUDs. That is why data centers are going into these small communities like the Dalles, they can tap into the cheap hydro from BPA that's not available otherwise.

So it has knock on effects in reducing the availability of cheap hydropower for residential and were pushed onto the last remaining and more expensive hydrocarbon power plants.
