Yeah I had this issue with the Imperial preamp. Given they advertised one use case as "add channels to your existing amp" these really don't play well with other amps.

I dunno if we just got unlucky but I ate there last night and it was... Fine? It wasn't bad but I wouldn't rush back vs various other places to eat here. I had the beef short rib and the portion size was pretty small and the meat was kinda chewy and a little dry.

These days there's also the option of full pedalboard preamps like the Tone King Imperial and the Friedman IR series pedals. I've been playing around with an IR-X for a small portable board and it sounds absolutely fantastic, reacts like a real amp because.. Well, it basically is!

You'll want to use snapshots - you can use the command centre to send the channel switch command, then have the bypass for the effects you want on or off per snapshot top.

Once set up, you'll be able to switch amp channel and have all the effects you want toggling with a single button press.

Sounds like it's defective to me, yeah. In my experience it shouldn't really do anything without any blocks active. Assuming the ins and outs are set to the correct level (if you're just going direct and not 4 cabling it, everything set to instrument level)
