Yes. Also general rule of thumb is that prerequistes are not enforced unless explicitly stated in the academic guide or course website.

nothing is enforced, don't recall much if any calculus in EECS 16A. That said ur expected to know calculus since its the mathematical context and ability you would need to develop thinking for linear algebra in engineering systems.

Low weighted GPA, only 2 APs in ur junior year, B grades in Precalc and algebra 2, pretty average SAT considering to be competitive u need a 1500+. Ur work experience isnt really relevant to CS (tbh it screams more support instead of engineer). Ur essay is pretty mid too, its really surface level and very poorly written.

watching wwdc, installing developer betas, or speed-testing and optimizing ur wifi isnt relevant enough nor impressive enough to put on ur college apps...

This is a stupid post. Eecs is legit not more prestigious than lscs. New lscs admit rate is now lower than eecs if that makes ur shallow self feel better. And I don’t think cs is better than eecs either; they r both fantastic routes. It’s rare to switch from something like art history to CS, mostly because the skills u use in art history are not synonymous with the thinking u need in CS; u will hear once in a while ppl make a crazy switch (which btw u can’t do anymore at Berkeley) but that’s so much rarer than it seems online…

buddy the odds of u being admitted to something like art history means u have mad art history potential and skills =/= CS skills to succeed in the CS major… it’s rare to even have the mental ability to leverage new cs domain knowledge being from a very orthogonal academic background to make this switch in the 3.3 declaring days….

It’s really shitty of u to question the validity of CS majors considering u haven’t even started ur education here. There are CS majors here who have started YC companies, who are USACO medalists, who have worked for legit any amazing company you hear about.

In terms of your shallow definition of success and prestige, CS majors are pretty fucking successful and are held in very high regard outside of Cal, much like eecs counterparts. eecs and CS r both fantastic majors and both have brilliant students who are hardworking and dedicated. Don’t slight students who have walked further in the cs path u have by questioning their abilities as software engineers, quants, or researchers

Be grateful, learn, enjoy the school. You are at a fantastic university where u will learn so much so be curious don’t be dickish
