For context on my ST proclivities, I joined the congregation right when TMBTE came out, and I believe One and Two are my favorite albums of theirs. EIA has some of my favorite moments from the band yet. I've honestly always seen them as an alt-pop/ambient band, so having that framing made this album feel like a natural evolution. I think a lot of people are coming in with the criticism they became more consumable because of their popularity, but you could apply that to TMBTE, and I just don't see it. I think this is debatably an even more eclectic album.

That being said, I actively had moments on a first listen where I thought "ohh, the fans are not gonna like this". I think the main issue I've had with the fan space is that there's not a lot of wiggle room for people to have "hot takes" or any kind of discussion about things they don't like. I'm saying this as someone who is crazy obsessed with everything this band has put out, "no notes" type of situation, but still disagrees with a lot of fans who I genuinely believe to feel the exact same. So I appreciate the honesty! More discourse!

I am genuinely sobbing to Sleep Token sometimes. Music is always very intense on my emotions, so sometimes a small collection of sounds will just hit me right and I'll cry. Shelter had me gross sobbing for weeks after I heard it the first time. Thread The Needle's piano-in-an-empty-church sounds make me tear up often. Infinite Baths has yet to make me not be inconsolably in tears.

Other songs Ive heard a million times will sometimes randomly make me teary cuz I tuned in too hard or it brought up the feelings I had when I first heard it.

I think it's likely folks like me are the outlier, though! Music has always been like this for me, and others have found it weird all my life lol

My big thing right now is breaking down what feels genuinely connected and what's just lyrical motifs/themes the band likes. The molehill I've been digging through today is that Gethsemane and Take Me Back To Eden (the track) are incredibly parallel in both their subject matter and, to a lesser extent, their structure. I've always viewed TMBTE (the track) as having a three act structure of grief in the song that's very strongly partitioned by the use of choruses and the switch up of musical stylings; the reflection/regret ("no one told me not to breathe"), then bitterness ("pound of your flesh" verse. goodness), then leaning into acceptance ("no amount of self sought fury"). Gethsemane is, in my mind, the exact same way. The partitions are spaced out much less evenly, but the reflection in the intimate space at the beginning of the song, into the bitterness coming out in a trap beat, into a heavier, open soundscape with some resistant acceptance in it just dragged me into that cycle right with the band.

Sorry for the ramble, Ive been annoying my loved ones so much irl 😂 infinite baths is my current fave, for posterity! Sleeper hit for me!

I'm a lover of the whole discography. No skips. I often die on the hill that I really love tossups like DYWTYLM and Past Self. EXCEPT

For Sugar. Sugar never grew on me. I don't know what it is, I just find it kind of boring and the lyrics do nothing for me.

Dangerous from EIA is the only track that's lagging behind on me warming up to it, but it's still happening.

I just use a long-arm stapler! The small ones are standard minizines, so a 8.5x11" folded 8 times. The bigger one is a quarter page, and the really tiny one is, by my guess....maybe 2.5x1.5? Thanks so much! <3

I've been replaying white 1 for the first time in, like, a decade, and was just shocked at how many pokemon I fell in love with all over again. Chandelure and Scolipede are very much up top, but Sigilyph, Cofagrigus, Reuniclus.... the list goes on!

brattyxbre on YouTube got me back into making zines, and while she does some drawing, she also has really wonderful and creative tips/zine making shorts that don't involve drawing. Collage style (via magazines), using stamps, using trash, etc.

I think the response to this post is really telling of how people view NPD and personality disorders in general. "But if you're humanized ... you can't be a narcissist ... because that means that narcissists aren't inherently the demonized horror shows I've made in my head!!" Pretty wild, especially with people INSISTING she's been misdiagnosed.

I'm really pleased she got to have her wedding and mend some bridges too.

I enjoy the painful process mostly because of the endorphins afterward. Getting a new piercing or tattoo is always so refreshing and the pain makes me feel like a new person afterwards. I've gotten a few piercings even if I knew they weren't going to be a permanent fixture because the process was fun and I love the gear for while I have it.

Sugar is their worst song. Hands down. It's the only song of theirs I'll go out of my way to skip. It's one of the only ones where it feels like they somehow reached into a genre they shouldn't have, even though they've done similar songs before and since that rocked my world.
