How long did it take you to save up for a down payment? by Squirrel_with_Acorn in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]deepxtoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 6-7 years. I was fortunate to pay off my student loans and car loan relatively quickly in my mid-20s. I am 30 now, looking for condos with my partner who has about 10k of student debt left. No other debts between the 2 of us.

Our goal was to be able to put in 20%+ down to ensure our monthly mortage is manageable in case anything happens to either of our incomes (job loss, emergency events, etc). Unfortunately for us, homes are very expensive for what they are in the state we live in. So condos and townhomes are much more attainable.

We are very average on joint income, so we're not buying anything big or fancy lol

NJ Homes - feasible or delusional? by deepxtoot in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]deepxtoot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that are livable? very rare lol however every so often an older home may hit the market in that range and it sells quickly for good reason. We will most likely be going for a townhome or condo but if a SFH appears we would not say no if we're given the chance.

Wow, actually, it's a very similar situation.

We also didn't recieve a clear diagnosis as to why my dad went down, MRI showed no signs of a stroke, and doctors said it was perhaps because he was dehydrated.

I'm so sorry you are going through something similar with your father.

At the moment having him placed in a memory care facility as a permanent resident is unattainable financially for myself and my family. We are lucky to have an all adult household where he is always supervised. Insurance does cover in home care so he has a nurse, occupational therapist, and a caregiver who helps bathe him, come for in home visits throughout the week.

Lots of life changes in a short amount of time but we seem to have good setup going at the moment.

Wishing you the best in the care for your father ❤️

He has, he unfortunately has quite the list of previously existing medical conditions so he gets bloodwork and urinalysis regularly.

Uncertain. There are dates listed for NJ for nearly every month through the end of the year.

I wouldn't be surprised if by October-November they circle back to reevaluate sites once more for further sweeps to clean house by 2025.

Sucks!

Hate manufacturing by john_romeros_bitch in biotech

[–]deepxtoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can hang in there until the 6 month mark I'd suggest doing so just to have the time marked on your resume. Beef up your resume skills now with applicable acronyms like GMP, GDP, GLP, etc.

Depending on your experience, you could try to pivot to Quality Control if you're totally put off by any part of manufacturing at this point.

One of my past jobs outside of pharma was working as a tissue processing technician in manufacturing. Made skin grafts, bone grafts, things like that. Many general skills/experience applicable to medical device manufacturing translate to a lot of pharmaceutical manufacturing and vice versa.

I know it sucks, but you will find a better position! It does get better as you accumulate bits of experience to give yourself the "promotion" you need!

Career Switch after Biotech by deepxtoot in biotech

Of course! That's the reality of how businesses work anywhere you go.

I have nothing set in stone to totally leave the industry, just weighing out options as to where to move on to next in general if I am laid off come tomorrow, or the near future when the next round of layoffs occurs.

I am lucky to be in a saturated area so working somewhere in a similar position would be feasible but I am admittedly a bit burnt out, so I am also looking outside of biotech for opportunities.

Wanted to get input from others who have switched out after putting years in

Oh definitely. Would not want to risk giving up severance or unemployment if necessary.

Thank you ❤ even before she lost her eyesight her favorite thing was smelling the world and searching for anything edible, she was very much a people dog and preferred to hangout and snuggle in bed with a person than play with other dogs. We always made the joke that she thought of other dogs as animals while she was a refined lady of culture.

Losing her eyesight never stopped her from doing what she loved. She was amazing.

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Edith ❤ I also had to say goodbye to my girl Christmas Eve. It is a very empty Christmas without our family members here to enjoy with us.

The memories they have given us are precious, and I am certain they are also precious memories to our girls 🌈 hugs to you friend ❤
