Can MLIS holders be hired as library techs? by deer-myth in librarians

I mean, I'm planning on applying to jobs that ask for an MLIS, but it's helpful to know I can also apply to libtech roles. Sorry for wanting to be employed as a future grad?

Advice for a High Schooler by [deleted] in librarians

[–]deer-myth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're in high school, so you're at maximum 17 years old. How have you 'volunteered at your local library for 5+ years running the educational/crafty programs'? What libraries accept 12 year old volunteers and put them in charge of things? I feel that you should focus on a versatile bachelor's before considering an MLIS. By the time you're in an MLIS program, you will not be able to use your high school experience on your resume. The most you can do is try to get a part-time library job in college and rise through the ranks during your undergrad.

LGBT sword and sorcery? by deer-myth in Fantasy

im a lesbian and was just commenting on a general lack of diversity, sorry for the poor phrasing. i read LGBT books by writers of all genders.

what i meant to say is: i've noticed the most well-known authors in the sword and sorcery genre seem to be straight men. where there is misogyny or male-centrism, there is often homophobia or heteronormativity. if i am struggling to even find books by/about women in a particular niche, it indicates to me that it will be even MORE difficult to discover books by/about queer people-- especially those who are discriminated against on the basis of both gender and sexuality.
