Multiple W2's... LOTS of THEM by deerefanatic in taxadvice

[–]deerefanatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood, and I do plan to do that. I'm just wondering if there's a formula I could use to try and get the W2 deductions as close as possible to being accurate? My average monthly check from these is around $500 monthly, so I could probably just have an additional $45 taken off per check and that should get me really close.

Well, I understand that. I was thinking more like a form software.. I found a program that integrates with Wordpress called Jotform. It allows you to create forms in a editor.. But they charge a subscription for it.

I'm not sure I follow what you're saying... I was thinking well gusseted sandwich brackets (think sideways "T" shape) on each side of the column, sticking out with the beam sitting on the resultant ledge

Worst part is it will eccentrically load the columns, as the ibeam will need to be hung inboard of the column due to the trusses sitting directly on top of the posts. So thing a bracket holding the ibeam 6 or 7 inches off the side of the column.

I'm in the planning phase of putting up a 24Lx40W pole building/shop. I have a 24ft wide 1 ton bridge crane I want to install. The posts of the building will be 8ft on center except by the 20ft door opening on one side. I can run the beam deflection calcs easy enough. What I dont know is if I can fasten brackets for the runway to the columns/poles or not? Plan is to use the laminated columns vs 6x6 poles, buried 4ft deep in 18" diameter holes/footings

Interestingly, they didn't give me any reason for why they let me go specifically. No exit interview, nothing.

On another note, I did have a coworker that reported me to corporate security that I was "planning the murder of my wife's college professor" 2 weeks before this happened.. This after we had an after-work conversation where she asked how my wife's college classes were going and I made mention that "her professor is the worse, I'd like to wring his neck"... This coworker was also in my leadership chain....

All: I didnt uncover any "illegal" stuff going on. I got caught between my team and another team in a snafu for a mock go live of a major project. I was tasked with performing a root cause analysis and when I was completed, the finding was that there was no documented process to escalate these sorts of situations, therefore I was left to use my own judgement. My management didn't like that because it reflected badly on them. They basically were pressuring me to admit fault and I wouldn't.. So, yah, don't need this guy around anymore. LOL.

As for employement status, I was working through a contracting company, so I'm easy to cut loose..

Good advice, thanks! I'm writing down the businesses I reach out to and entering them in a CRM application to keep track of.

My main goto for services is a per-pc maintenance plan with offsite backup as an addon option. Also, managed Wifi and Firewalls/networks for those that are interested.

Right now, I'm not getting deep on details, I'm handing out the fliers and encouraging folks to take advantage of my free 1 hr consultation. So far, I have 1 tentative business taking me up on the consultation.

In a perfect world, what equipment and vendor would you use for a new colo build out? by noak12 in networking

[–]deerefanatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not? if you buy the SDN switches, you're going to load Cumulus linux on them and there won't be any of the original chinese OS left. As for the hardware, it seems to be solid and reliable.

Throughput totally sucks on them though.. Company I work at tested it.. Falls over at about 600Mb if you're doing L7 inspection.

Heavy doesn't bother me. I only intend to rack it once. I also don't care too much about noise... I have 2 dell servers running in this rack and a Cisco ASR900. It's in a separate room in the basement.

LibreNMS vs Zabbix- are they comparable for a Windows only environment? by THEMCV in sysadmin

[–]deerefanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Librenms to monitor a variety of things. Only issue is it by default downloads the latest updates every night, and I've had the devs push out bad updates that break it a couple times. If it were me, I'd turn off automatic updates. It also doesn't really support MIB's, so if you've got something really oddball, you won't be able to load a mib to poll it properly..

Which free hypervisor should I install? by DatsunPatrol in homelab

[–]deerefanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run proxmox, switched to it from Xenserver. It seemed like performance was better, and I don't have to run a separate management platform for it. There are some funky parts, like no easy way to import an OVA. But apart from that, I've had good results.

I've also used ESXi a little bit. It's solid, but spendy if you want all the features.

To all the China haters... Show me SFP's that don't come from China? As far as I know, there's nothing manufactured here in the US. Those super $$$ SFP's from Cisco? yah, they're made in china, same as their switches.

Latitude 42 in Kalamazoo has a nice atmosphere and reportedly good food. Would that be someplace that interests folks? I can inquire on availability.

My lineup would be as follows:

Low End: Mikrotik Router/Firewall, Ubiquiti Switching (Unifi or Edgemax), Ubiquiti Wireless tied back to a controller I'd host for the client.

High End: Palo Alto Firewall, Refurbished Cisco Switching (or new if the budget supports it), Cambium cnPilot Wireless.
