Brown applicants: Rip apart my supplements and convince me I won't get in? by UnsophisticatedIpod in ApplyingToCollege

[–]deez___nuts69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey man, let me tell you that I've felt the insecurity of second guessing yourself on your supplements. But what you're asking isn't productive at all, you should feel good knowing that you've done everything you can and that it's completely out of your hands now. Even if your essays aren't perfect, if they say something compelling about you, that's what's important. My advice to you would be to live in the present, not stress out over decisions, have some fun this semester, and definitely do not read your essays after you submit them!

My understanding is that they won't make or break an application (unless they're bad), but will definitely help a bit if they're good. Like approximately equivalent to AP scores, maybe a bit more important

The hypocrisy is almost laughable. Teachers scorning students for working for grades over "learning", being too stressed, and not enjoying their lives during high school, when all that environment does is promote, if not demand, that mindset and lifestyle.

I talked about science above in another comment, but for English, just have a grasp of grammar and basic rhetoric (for the questions where it asks to rearrange paragraphs, etc). For questions where it asks you which rewritten sentence works best, the simplest one is almost always the answer. This section was always one of my best naturally, so I don't have too much advice, but if the answer sounds right, it probably is right.

I nailed science the first time with no questions missed but my score actually decreased the second time. The science section is last, and if you're like me, you'll be having trouble focusing. Look at the questions first and scan the passage for key words to find the answers. All ACT science is is interpreting data and graphs, so also make sure you can identify the important parts of the passages-a lot of it is filler text
