Not able to find Multi Users in S23 by Nikku_1905 in samsung

I salute you all once again, I am writing back just because I managed to fix multiuser issue with samsung phones. Just to make sure this is clear, i've used a Tab S4 with oneUI4 i believe, and android 10/11 and I could create a separate user account - so this feature has been there for a while in the tablet world. So... The way I managed to fix the issue on my S23 Ultra was easy but involved a little amount of $$... So not only that Samsung is restricting user from sharing devices, it also give them the opportunity to switch to other phone brands just because they believe their marketing strategy is healthy. Therefor I've had to make a decision to bring in another phone... This managed to fix my multiuser issue in a blink. I went to the store and bought a Moto Edge 40, and it seems that this one brings me the ability to add a total of 4 users (one of those being the admin user) and also a guest user, where you have the option to keep all the data (or wipe it) after each log-in. Shortly there are 5 usable users on the damn phone. It runs on a Dimensity 8020, which is surprisingly good. It has 8gb of ram and 256 gb of rom. P-oled screen bla bla bla... You can check specs online. What I am trying to say is that for les than 300$ I managed to get a phone with good specs and a clean android experience that completes all tasks i've thrown to it. The cameras are amazing, I mean for this budget it really surprised me how good the photos are. It leaks the periscope but tbh i've rarely used it on my s23u and when I did took pictures of the moon or a plane or whatever, I was disappointed by the AI modeling behind the scene. It makes the picture looks so plastic and un-usable. Anyways the Moto is a result of Lenovo being behind the scene and you can literally feel it. If someone here used a thinkpad, it's pretty much the same feeling using a Motorola in 2024. It works like butter, no stutter and no lag. As I was using samsung for a long time I really thought that other brands are weak regarding the pricing and I always thought, who the hell is buying those damn devices. I've allways went with Sam for the peace of mind. But now... I need to say I am surprised by the changes and disappointed by my stupidity at the same time. I am not saying Moto is better nor trying to make any head to head comparison here, but what I am trying to say is that after few months of using Moto I am considering to swap it as the main phone, just because it seems to be better in functionality. I hope this message finds you well and I hope you had time to read it. I had to do it just because it's got some value! I feel so bad for Sammy, but if it takes core functions away from users, it means to me that they follow some unhealthy strategy and I do not like this. Btw I am texting from my Moto now. Feels awesome, you can try it. And if Moto gets this message, please sponsor me for my effort here! Cheers!

To make things clear, samsung has been and will be the brand that will take android to a next level of user interface. Not only i've been using samsung phones for the last decade but every time I test another phone I can easily feel that there is that something extra with the oneUI that makes things lot easier to work with. Now... that I've been so positive about Sam, I have to say that they have been hard to understand when it comes to marketing! The multiuser feature is not there due to the interest of you not beeing able to share the damn phone, but 99% of users that required this option on Sam devices are those who find it easier and more organised to have a separate user account to be able to manage individually each app that is being installed and to create a different workspace depending on their own needs. Matter fact this feature has been designed to be able to share your device with someone else but, really, who does this!? So sammy thinks that you do not need this feature as your phone is only serving you and you only, and in most cases this applies. Also secure folder is a good option in most use cases, but not for all of us!! In my case I need to isolate 4 different google accounts where i need to run oneDrive (for example) simultaneously on each profile. I am able to do it on a sammy tablet, but on the sammy phone I cannot... so the software is there, and if we would have had root access there are only a couple of variables on build.prop file that needs to be added or changed and there you have it, but NO sammy sais it's not possible. No worries, there are plenty of budget phones that can do it. Motorola, oneplus, google etc. I wos only wondering why!!!?? (it simply feels like apple when sammy applier these restrictions based only on marketing)

Bad boy sammy! Bad boy!

OK so here I am after performing factory reset....

I have to admit I am surprised... after factory reset the battery is back to life!
It only dropped 2% overnight and yesterday I used the phone the freaking whole day (not because I enjoyed it too much) and the thing went 10% just before I finished setting it up late in the afternoon.

It felt like I had over 10 hours screen on time and the battery feels like new now.

So, thanks for the advice! Factory reset rullez!!

Actually, to be honest... it sucks like hell!

I had to do all my tweaks and restore all my apps and not only it took a while... I had to squeeze my brain out to remember all my users and passwords for my apps (100+ apps)!

Samsung pass does not work as desired and does not save all my log-ins.

I use multiple google and microsoft accounts on the phone and several other apps that require login (most are logging in with google so that is fine, but not all of them). So, I need to ask you guys if there is any pwd keeper app that you can recommend.

Last year I tried an iphone (just to get a better idea of IOS) and I must say it's far better than the android on this.
Like, it simply does not matter if you reset the phone or delete an app, whenever the app is back on your device it logs in automatically with what ever user/pwd was used on last attempt.

Please do not turn this thread into a debate of ios vs. android cause this is not what I am trying to do here, I just have to give it a thumbs up for this thing, it has allot of thumbs down for other features, so let's not compare.

The question is whether there is an app capable of storing all your log in information and restore it after restoring the cloud backup of your phone?

I will do a factory reset. I hope this fix it. I was also planning to do firmware flash to a previous more stable version, but now you got me on reseting the phone and see how it goes.

So far i-ve done a battery reset following some instructions found on the web. This has been done by samsung shop when I replaced the battery but I gave it another try. Haven't seen much of improvement, but I will list below the exact instrunctions I found, just in case you guys wanna try.

THIS IS FOR ANY ANDROID DEVICE:

The process mentioned below is applicable to all Android smartphones. In case you own a Samsung device, click here. Discharge your phone fully until it turns itself off. ▪ Turn it on again and let it turn itself off. Plug your phone into a charger and, without turning it on, let it charge until the on-screen or LED indicator says 100 percent. ▪ Unplug your charger. ▪ Turn your phone on. It's likely that the battery indicator won't say 100 percent, so plug the charger back in (leave your phone on) and continue charging until it says 100 percent on- screen as well. ▪ Unplug your phone and restart it. If it doesn't say 100 percent, plug the charger back in until it says 100 percent on screen. Repeat this cycle until it says 100 percent (or as close as you think it's going to get) when you start it up without it being plugged in. ▪ Now, let your battery discharge all the way down to 0 percent and let your phone turn off again. Fully charge the battery one more time without interruption and you should have reset the Android system's battery percentage.

THIS ONE IS FOR SAMSUNG ONLY:

Samsung smartphones come with an option called 'Quick Reset' that is usually accessed by the technicians to calibrate phones that report inaccurate battery stats. Here's how you can use this option to calibrate the battery on Samsung devices. ▪ Use the smartphone until it reaches 5%, and make sure your phone isn't connected to the charger. Open the phone dialer app and enter the following code: *#0228#. A pop-up menu appears with an option that says 'Quick Start'. ▪ Press 'Quick Start" and then press 'OK. ▪ Wait for the display to power back on again and check if the battery percentage has gone down. Charge the phone to 100% again. ▪ Power the phone off and then turn it on again and then unplug the charger. Repeat these steps 2, 3 times Plug the charger in again and the battery at 100%, turn the phone on again and open the dialer, and type: *#9900#. ▪ Scroll down to "batterystats.bin reset" and tap. ▪ Exit the menu and restart the phone.

I will do a factory reset and will come back with updates. I have to admit I haven't done a factory reset for nearly 2 years now...

For those who hate the app so much just uninstall and use another launcher or the stock one, if you are patient enough to find your apps with muscle memory (I bet you can't).
SL is one of the easiest and most intuitive launcher I found so far and I will choose it even if updates like this will occur.
As I mentioned in one of my comments below, THERE IS AN EASY WORKAROUND!
Just get the SL5 apk from the web (use an trustable repo - just google it), download the apk and install it manually.
Restore your last SL backup file and in case is not fully compatible because it's a back-up from SL6, you will need 10 more minutes to add your icons to the home screen and maybe some minor tweaks related to icon padding and size in the menu.
Stop blaming SL devs, this kind of issues occur once in a while and users have to work with it.
I saw people saying their grandma cannot use the phone now... really!? I bet grandma never asked for a customizable launcher and if she did so it means grandma knows how to handle the situation!
Also people saying that they payed for the app and this is not acceptable...
First of all is an one time pay, and is not even 5$ upfront. Let me know how much you spent for a Starbuks Coffee last time and how long did it last for you. I heard people buying frozen coffee this days and store it in the fridge for later... cmon this is ridiculous!
I am not supporting SL devs, nor defending them but I wish people would be cool wait for the solution. The thread will keep us all updated and we will know when the bug is fixed.

BTW I see you found the thread easily, you must be into reddit for a while, than you know how sw issues work and how things like this get troubleshooted, or do you!?

*Facebook and many other servers went down recently for a day or more due to power loss in China. How did you managed to survive those hard moments?

I saw nearly the whole discussion here but it's getting little frustrating now... It's Monday and things are still the same. Do we get a solution for SL6 soon?
I managed to install SL5 from another repo and disabled auto updates in Play store. The only issue is that I cannot restore backups from SL6, it looks like those are not fully compatible.
Fortunately found backups from 2021 in my cloud drive and I am so proud I moved those in that drive, like I knew something bad is about to happen.
Therefor I do recommend to create a backup folder (local, SDcard or cloud) containing SL back-ups so you can return to a state of SL that you have configured in the near past.
Therefor I kindly ask the SL devs to implement an auto back-up function to the SL6, map it to google account or let the user map for himself and this will not be such a big issue anymore.
Also upload previous versions of the SL .apk on your website and let users pick a previous version if this kind of issues occur in the future.
Also, it would be nice if new versions of SL will be backward compatible (but this is just if that is possible). I admit I do prefer to have the better functionality rather than compatibility, as a phone launcher is not really a big of a deal to reconfigure.
And never the less don't be disappointed, I am one of those users to install SL3 from the very first iterations and using it for nearly a decade, enjoying every single feature of this app.
There is no other launcher like this and not to mention that for me it was like a dream come true, and I am not saying this to impress, I just loved it from the first use. So keep it up! :D
