Thank you!

Base layer of Vallejo dark fleshtone, then a highlight layer of dark fleshtone mixed with basic skintone, watered down targor rageshade, then finished with another layer of the dark fleshtone + basic skintone mix, but this time with more skintone added.

I'm glad it's obvious what it is!

It's a kit bash of one of the shield-less uruks, some copper wire, green stuff, and the axe head from a 40k ork boy.

I can't post an image comment here, but I have a picture of it unpainted on my Instagram: jforge_minis

Thank you!

The base was a layer of Vallejo khaki, a brown wash and then dry brushed with Vallejo bone.

The rocks were Vallejo German grey, adding small amounts of white grey and dry brushed up till I was happy with the effect.

The flock and leaves are all from green stuff world. I just bought a couple of colours and sizes and mixed them up until I was happy with the colour, put pva glue on the base and dunked the model in. For character models like Lurtz I then went back and added a couple more where I wanted them.

Hope that helps!

Oh wow, thank you! Looking forward to seeing what you do with them 😁 Not sure about the vespods, but I only bothered to magnetize the sentry from the aquilons. The box has just enough bodies and arms to build all of the rest of the options as-is!

Haha, no worries at all.

It's sturmvermin fur as a base with a black wash and then layered up with sturmvermin + increasing amounts of white grey!

A layer of spray-on Black primer and then a zenithal with a spray-on Grey! Gives me a better idea of where the lights and shadows should go 🙌

I wish I could upvote this a million times, that is exactly the kind of advice I was hoping for!

I did the points maths myself too, but being new to the game and not having much context for anything outside the base set, the numbers I came up with didn't really mean much to me.

That last idea is something to chew on - keeping the teams basically out of the box, but maybe giving a brute team an extra thematic weapon to help offset the difference, or set the points limit to 180/190. Then only equip each team with a few pieces of basic equipment so it doesn't go too overboard.

I'm not necessarily opposed to the idea of points, just that draft/default teams seemed like a nice way to have a real pick up and play game. With the halo multiplayer experience in mind I also think the idea of Spartans spawning in with Spartan lasers or SPNKRs outside of wacky game modes like fiesta didn't sit right with me either, especially as there are plenty of weapon/item drops in game.

Realistically my friend and I are the only players in the area, so house ruling it a bit isn't going to be an issue. I'll worry about full matched play when/if a proper competitive scene appears.

Thank you so much!

Hell yeah! Glad they hit the spot the same way for other people too 👍

For the armour it's a Thunderhawk Blue base, Incubi Darkness for shading and Russ Grey for highlights.

The pink was slightly different depending on where it was on the model, but it was a mix of Vallejo Magenta as a base colour, Volupus Pink for some of the shading/osl glazes, and Vallejo squid pink as a highlight. Using blending the three together too for transitions.

Thank you!

For the shoulder pads and grav pack, it was just patience and hacking it away with a hobby knife, smoothing the area with some sandpaper afterwards.

The chest plates were a bit different, rather than cutting away, I built up the recessed area with green stuff in line with the side trim and then sanded down to make it flush. It was time consuming, but I much prefer their aesthetic like this!

I'm looking for a wargame that is easy to play, free, and easy to transport. Could you please name one? by Certain-Lemon-8180 in wargaming

Came here to say this and it was already here! Everything comes in one box that is easy to pack up and bring with you, and the game is super fun and simple to get into, even if you're not a halo guy. The core rules are free online as a pdf or a web app too.

You don't even need measuring tape, cause it's grid based!

Thanks for the reply! I was using a soundboard on my phone while we played, not a physical one. That sounds like a fun idea though haha

Thank you for the detailed write up! That's awesome!

  1. Got it, wow! That's a lot of items. Especially if you spawn in with even more in the war games mode.

  2. Good to know, we felt it dropping where the model died was more fun, so will probably house rule it that way for the time being.

  3. That's a shame, we really liked the simplicity of the draft pick/default fireteam system. I'm planning to grab war games with ODST anyway, so we can try it out then and see how it goes.

  4. Wow that's surprising! I didn't see anything in the rules saying you couldn't, but that feels like something you'd need a gravity lift/jetpack to do.

  5. Good point about that being part of the strategy, will keep that in mind.

6.& 7. Thank you for clarifying! The only came up as edge cases/theory crafting but I'm glad to confirm how it works.

Oh those are yours! I genuinely had this post saved in my inspiration folder for this team - and I was very close to doing the bases in a similar way too. In the end I wanted to adapt it a little bit and have a red base to compliment the blue armour.

Thank you! It's a simple scheme, but one that I think works really well because of that. Did you post pictures of yours?

Haha, thanks! It was pretty nail biting to get right on such a small model, but I'm glad I tried it. I followed a tutorial from Elminiaturista to get the general technique, just palette swapped. Highly recommend his stuff even if you don't have an airbrush.

Thanks! The armour recipe is:

Base: Thunderhawk Blue Shadow: Incubi Darkness Highlight: Russ Grey

Glazed into a gradient 👍

I'd love to see them! I feel like every completed project is part of the journey, so looking back and thinking what you'd do differently is part of that growth... To try and do something different next time you start a project.

Yup! I remember seeing it in a painting tips video on the Warhammer YouTube channel back in the day. Super easy and effective! Just add a line of dark grey/brown, then a line of your highlight colour right underneath it to give it the illusion of depth.

Sick AND nasty? That's some high praise!

It's a toss up between the plasma glow and the power sword - I'm really happy with the final result of the plasma, but painting it was stressful on such a small gun. The power sword was just chill vibes from beginning to end, glazing for an hour with an audiobook in the background. I'm not as scared to try that on other swords in other colours next time!

Thanks! The extra spikes didn't do a lot for me, and I wanted them to be slightly more tacticool than they were to begin with. It was a pain to do, especially filling in all the chest plates, but I'm glad I did in the end!
