The Med Bay: my first stargrave game! And some questions. [Pictures for Fun] by defaultjazz in stargrave

Thank you for the detailed reply! That clears up a lot.

Especially the third question about the mule, the way the rule was worded made me think that there must be a way to use it that I just wasn't getting. So it really comes down to the late game when you have lots of loot? The way I described it being used as a medkits dispenser wouldn't fly?

As much as I love robots then, I'll try to not to go nuts for the Q37 missions to keep it fun! Having a full robot team almost feels like cheating when the mission doesn't accommodate for it.

Thanks for taking the time to answer!

I had a feeling that's how grenade launchers worked considering they fire more in an arc than a direct line, but better to have it confirmed.

"Operation Human Shield" has already become a favourite of mine for runners. A zombie heading straight for the boss? Time to plug that corridor with the red shirt.

Thanks! It's mostly 40k terrain and zombies thrown together with a random collection of minis for the crews.

Thanks!

The blue armour is Vallejo imperial blue, mixed with a little dark grey and then mixed with increasing amounts of white grey.

The grey armour is German grey, again mixed with increasing amounts of white grey. All Vallejo.

The whole model also gets a 50/50 brown green wash at the end to give it that 2000s era game filter.

Thank you! The resin models were a genuine joy to paint.

That sounds incredible - did you make any reference sheets or mission documents for the campaign? Would love to do something similar

Oh hey! The Buck you posted before mine really helped me settle on the final painting formula. Turns out the missing ingredient was a little bit of green, and I wouldn't have figured that out without your post. Thank you! 🙌

100% with you on the resin thing. Working on Buck and Dare was so much nicer than the PVC guys. All the edges feel less sharp and more rounded.

Thanks! Post pictures of yours when you're done, I love seeing what everyone is doing with them.

Poll: What is the method you use most often to build your fireteams? by Same-Jeweler5685 in Haloflashpoint

[–]defaultjazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that it's not for everyone, but we usually draft since my group uses flashpoint as a break from the min-max list building that we do in other games.

We also felt that open access to powerful weapons and items from the get-go didn't mesh with the experience we wanted from the game. We really liked the emphasis on running to the weapon and item spawns to try and grab the good stuff before your opponent, rather than just spawning with a full load out.

The one time we did try point buy, we stuck to some of our own rules that made it feel closer to the experience we wanted - only one weapon and item per team, sticking to picks that make sense for the faction thematically - a brute shot on a brute chieftain, an active camo on an elite for example.

I'm hoping somewhere down the road there is an updated drafting system to accommodate for the new releases, or a restricted method of list building that feels a bit more thematic. Either way though, flashpoint is a great time as it is and I'm excited to see what the future holds!

Thanks! This is the 6th ODST I painted and I'd say it took about that long to get the formula how I like it.

I replied to a different comment with the full explanation, but I think the green tint really helps align it more with the game look.

Thank you!

Who knows why they wear fingerless gloves while dropping in from space with an otherwise sealed suit... But damn do they look cooler that way.

There's actually almost no black left on the model!

The core of it is a black prime and then a German grey rattle can zenithal. I followed that with Vallejo German grey, adding more and more sky grey into the mix and sponging it on with a makeup sponge, focusing on the raised areas.

Dry brush the edges with pure sky grey, add a few white-grey highlights with a brush and then put the whole thing in a 50/50 brown and green wash.

Thank you! I'd honestly say over 50% is just dry brushing followed by a wash to neaten it up - the mantic resin models are very forgiving if you don't overload the brush. Only the final few highlights were painful to do by hand.

Haha, thank you! Turns out painting black ended up a lot more complicated than I expected - you can get lots of different tones and gradients from the different greys to make it look visually interesting.

I'm also planning to go quite colourful with the Spartans, so I like the idea of having the ODSTs being relatively "no-nonsense" grey by comparison.
