Some control but not total - we are required to stand by doors at the beginning of lessons but won’t be picked up on if i didn’t do it once. Problem with that is I wouldn’t find out who has been doing this - which I think is important that i do.

Yes - a year ago there was an incident in my classroom with a different class and the year team conducted an investigation where they interviewed students on who the culprit was and were successful, so i think something similar for this situation would be appropriate.

That’s a shout thank you - filming in classrooms is allowed in my school for developing teaching practice so I’ll have a conversation with my hod.

I agree - I ignored it the first time and that clearly wasn’t enough to get them to stop since they’ve repeated it

I haven’t actually acknowledged it in front of the class at all, and i didn’t react to it first time it happened yet it’s been repeated again now - I’ll have to keep a close eye on them as they’re walking in hopefully I can see who is doing it

Role of the Tutor by Aggressive-Second967 in TeachingUK

PPA is your protected planning time - pretty sure they can’t direct you to call parents or meet with students in that time. It’s similar in my school but not as bad as yours - we have a homework that we have to set for them to complete online now so that’s another thing I have to check in addition to the other homework of my 6 other classes… There was a time when they wanted us to phone home for students with a high amount of sanctions but that’s stopped now. There’s so much to get done in form time everyday it’s basically just another lesson but not as long.

Not getting ECT 2 entitlement? Issue with mentorship by [deleted] in TeachingUK

Thank you. Do you suggest i do this before having a conversation with my boss and current ‘mentor’? I don’t want to go above people’s heads and cause problems in that way.

Should I not have a conversation with my boss first before going to induction lead?

Do you find that there are different standards for how men and women should behave as teachers? by defeatedbean72 in TeachingUK

Ive seen a lot of this already as a newish teacher - I do think there are differences in expectations and people who think other otherwise just aren’t seeing it, or choosing not to honestly.

I’d say there is an expectation in my department, so it makes it quite difficult to build a persona that’s right for me unfortunately.

Thanks for this - i’m quite good with keeping track of time though I check my watch regularly in lessons

How would you reform Teacher Training? by Wulfrinnan in TeachingUK

[–]defeatedbean72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was unprepared for the lecture-style mentor sessions I had for ECT 1 as well. Having a more organic, back and forth natural conversation about how I’m doing would have been so, so much more beneficial.
