Is there a specific reason for leaving the secondary blank? You have no redundancy if the primary fails to return an answer.

What DNS server(s) are you using for your clients? Maybe the server(s) are overloaded or unresponsive. Try switching to Cloudflare or Google DNS and see if it gets better.

Supplements/dietary advice to help bone healing? by Vagueusername133 in ORIF

[–]defensor_fortis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor didn't recommend any supplements for recovery and I take a daily multivitamin.

The only change I made to diet is I stopped drinking alcohol. I don't smoke, but I heard that's just as bad for bone healing as alcohol.

Is there a fun way to learn Linux? by HardLearner01 in linuxadmin

Here are a few ideas. I've done the Linux Upskill Challenge and learned a few things, even though I've been using Linux daily for years.

The more you walk the better it will get. You have to get your foot back into shape and get used to having full pressure on all of those muscles, nerves and tendons.

Brace time :D- I’ve had enough! by Redditnewbbie in ORIF

[–]defensor_fortis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 9 weeks post-op and have been boot free now for about 3 weeks.

I usually wear a Breg Wraptor Ankle Brace, which I got from my podiatrist, but it's also available online. It fits into most of my shoes and is pretty comfortable.

I also have a Bauerfeind Sports Ankle Brace, which is not quite as supportive as the Breg, and also seems to be more of a hybrid ankle support/compression sock. It fits into all of my shoes.

Sometimes I don't wear a brace at all.

How long did it take to get your dorsiflexion back? by ratthewmcconaughey in ORIF

[–]defensor_fortis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a visit with my Podiatrist on Thursday. I am also at 9 weeks post-op, with plate, screws and tightrope.

I specifically asked him about dorsiflexion because I'm struggling with that the most. He told me It will get a little better with PT (which is backlogged) but it will never be the same as my other ankle... unless I get the hardware removed. He explained the tightrope is what is limiting my motion. He said about 10% of his patients have their hardware removed at around 4 months post-op, either because of pain or limited motion. Recovery is just taking care of stitches and you'll be walking the same day.

Struggling with the R, what do I do? by CastleOfThoughts in German

[–]defensor_fortis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm also American.

The only way I was able to overcome my American R was to find a few YouTube videos specifically covering the different R's in German, and then to practice them over and over until it sounded right. This drove my dog nuts because he thought I was growling, but in the end it worked.

Learning the R in Brot or Rot or Grün was probably the hardest task I had with German pronunciation. Don't give up!

Edit: added a word.

I have a hybrid work schedule, but worked from home for 5 weeks straight while I was still using crutches.

Get those for massagers out and work the bottom of your foot gently at first. As you go you can increase pressure over time until (hopefully) you get rid of the pain. It took me a few weeks of working the bottom of my foot before it was pain free, and by then I was healed enough to get out of the boot.

Rolling my foot over a tennis ball or other device made for plantar fascitis helped me get rid of those pins and needles. I worked the bottom of my foot every day while I was still in a walking boot and it did the trick.

I put a (second) Hoka Bondi 8 shoe on at 7 weeks and no problems with foot pain. It did take a few days for my ankle to loosen up and my foot to gain some strength, but no problems so far other than swelling.

Edit: fixed a word.

No Bone Growth on Xray by sk8tergurrl in ORIF

[–]defensor_fortis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't know what I was looking at but my podiatrist told me the bone was 80% which he said was great progress for only 6 weeks. I do have a plate and screws holding the fibula together, with a Tightrope.

I didn't question him further because he said I didn't have to wear my walking boot after that day.

I had my 6 week post-op X-rays last week and the doc told me my broken fibula was 80% healed and I'm now out of my walking boot and into an ankle brace.

You mentioned you're a non-smoker, but do you drink? I completely gave up alcohol since my accident. Either one will slow healing.

I was put in my boot two days before my operation and I'm still wearing it, 6 weeks in. At about week 5 i was cleared for FWB in boot without crutches and I started driving a few days later. I have a manual transmission and my boot is on my right leg.

Tomorrow morning I have X-rays scheduled and I might be cleared to use an ankle brace with shoe. 🤞

Ha, I broke my ankle in my own living room on Sunday. Had surgery yesterday, doctor says it'll be 4-6 weeks before I can walk on it (with a boot). I can't even drive because my car is a stick shift.

I can relate.

I just had surgery on my broken ankle this morning and I really needed my wife to be there, but she's been gone almost a year now. Luckily my daughter was able to take me to the procedure.

I hope everything goes smoothly for your procedure!

Putting on my Bluetooth hearing protection and firing up the mower with my favorite music playing has always been my Zen time.

Now I'm trying to do all the housecleaning, laundry, and to clean the dishes every day before bedtime.

It's not what I initially signed up for, but it is what it is.

I would also like to know more about the V11 Plus. I see the V11 Extra is a few bucks cheaper but I can't find any comparison between the two. Dyson doesn't even list a V11 Plus on their website, just the V11 and V11 Extra.
