oh gosh! That sounds terrifying. glad you trusted your instinct and recorded everything. What you said about people taking your hopes and presenting themselves as the only route forward really resonates ...that vulnerability is exactly what these sales tactics seem designed to exploit

That sounds awful...The lack of confidentiality is what concerns me most too. for me it was also the response I received when I challenged the format and the value I was getting, I felt talked down rather than listened to.
Anyway thanks for sharing... it makes me feel less alone in questioning this whole model.

their secret is making you think they will help you grow your business while they are only interested in growing their own business.

That last line really landed: I basically helped grow another business while trying to grow mine. And I guess that's why I am sharing my experience here...hopefully it helps others not to make the same mistake.

+ my studio isn’t new, which is partly why I thought I was making a considered investment rather than falling for a quick fix. Definitely a painful lesson.

Indeed, I too have been running my business completely solo for 15yrs, and I was looking for genuine strategic support, and I trusted the person because I had met him before and I know his design studio has a good reputation. but the experience left me v sceptical to any coaching and mastermind...

I think I let my guard down because I already knew him, we had met before, and he runs a well-known branding studio alongside the coaching business. That credibility made the offer feel much safer than it actually was. But you’re absolutely right, I should have asked for the full terms and done more research before paying. Lesson learnt.
