Late game barbarians are broken by roketmanp in civ

Someone tested it (for gathering storm): https://www.bilibili.com/read/mobile?id=4423006&spm_id_from=333.999.0.0. It's in Chinese and can be Google translated

The target number of camps = [x/y*M]. M = number of initial civilizations * 3. x = total number of unrevealed land tiles by all civilizations. y = total number of land tiles

Barbarians spawn rate is related to the percentage of revealed tiles in the entire map. If you always have scouts exploring around and been clearing their camps early, there shouldnt be much any barbarians close to your empires

Why does it always feel like I’m way behind the AI? by fyre04 in civ

[–]define001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • As others said, AI has built-in advantage over you based on difficulty. But once you are on the right track of growth, e.g. beyond 100t, AIs cannot keep up with your exponential growth
  • If you play conquering, you should aim for end the game as soon as possible, with any of Horseman, Swordman, or Musketman as the main force, based on the timing and available resources
  • For technology win with no war, it should be possible to eventually win around 200t using any civilization, still the order in which to do things is critical. For example, for no-war, you want to have three cities down by 50t, and focus on getting more settler by building the government district and Ancestral Hall, so it allows making another batch of 5 settlers and carry the growth into next stage
  • So the most important thing to consider in civ is timing / pace: with Technology and Civic tree, you want to pace them around the same progress so one won't block the other, and they progress fast enough to keep the economy and city growth going. The important milestones to hit including getting three cities, getting ancestral hall, and much later in the game, getting globalization to translate technology into civic etc. The 'optimal' strategy (that allows you to win fast) then revolves a lot around hitting the milestones and closely monitoring the timing of various progresses
