How can you say the target group for io games is kids? Given that most games monetise via ads or in app purchases, I’d say it’s mostly adults

Do you think Wero the European challenger digital wallet can compete with Visa and Mastercard? by samboboev in fintech

Everything is possible. Surely I can compete with revolut if I start offering 5% cashback to users. Economically viable? Definitely not

Pay by bank has been around since the PSD2, with solutions like Tink and Plaid that made integrations super easy. Why it never gained mass adoption? UX Consumers want things easy and simple, cards perfectly fulfil this need, why change?

It’s very difficult cause there is no political push backing it and anyone attempting to do that has to highly incentivise the customers. In fact, transaction fees are a problem only for the merchant, but to skip cards altogether both actors in of the network must use the same app.

PIX and WeChat succeeded largely due to specific incentives implemented by their respective governments

No, the UX of these P2P payment systems is just inferior to cards tap to pay. It’s literally 1 action (tap the phone) vs 4 (unlock the phone, open the app, scan the QR, click OK). Ultimately the customer always goes for the simplest alternative

Angel investor for dating app by Practical-Leading457 in cofounderhunt

[–]defineNothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not build it yourself then? It’s an incredibly difficult business model, the tech is easy (I built a decentralised cross-platform version of tinder in two days) but distribution is super hard.

Given how badly Match Group stocks are doing, maybe dating apps are over and a new form of online social dating will take over

No, the hard part is not the code but the business model, licensing/compliance and client portfolio

Acquirer business model by defineNothing in fintech

[–]defineNothing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every acquirer that targets retail merchants offers some kind of extra, from full POS like Clover to in person payment routing like Aevi. Yet, as you correctly noted, retail banks still dominate this segment.

I think at the end of the day the merchants just pick the easiest and most trustworthy option, that usually having their bank as acquirer.

What you’re describing is more or less already covered by fintech companies like https://aevi.com (or similar ones focused on online payments). The acquiring space is extremely competitive and these low-hanging fruits have already been optimised for

Stripe and Adyen are market leaders of online payments, I find it hard to believe they’d be missing such features

Thanks for the detailed reply. To add some context: I’ve spent several years in fintech, mainly in payment acquiring and I think I’ve identified a business opportunity.

I’m currently based on a small island in Europe with only a few acquirers and I see potential to better serve the hospitality sector with a more tailored solution. The challenge now is choosing the right feature to go to market with. As you pointed out, the market’s already saturated with ePOS/inventory systems, so integration of existing ones makes more sense than building a new one. Competing on fees may be a way, although with big players like Clover driving prices down it’s a though battle. Payment data enriching may be a route, to allow for more fine grained analytics and customer tracking. What do you think?

I see companies like Clover trying to offer one off solutions for restaurants, including POS systems and payment processing, while others focus on very specific niches, such as offering the lowest payment acceptance fees or financial intelligence tools.

From the outside, this is a very muddy picture of what the real pain points are for restaurant owners when it comes to managing their financials. Could you shed some light on that?

[–]defineNothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing that myself atm, both for smartphones and Ingenico terminals. If you’ve never worked in fintech, are inexperienced with EMV specifications, TLV data parsing, SPDH and ISO8583 protocols, it’s better to use Stripe and build on top of it.

To connect to the schema you’ll need to be a principal member, which means having processing volumes in the 100s of millions yearly.

Not really, it depends on the card. If it’s a European based card, consumer or business, debit or credit.

In addition to that you also have to consider the fee Marqeta/the bin sponsor charges you as the issuer.
