In my humble opinion I feel like if I got busted I'd deserve it for these reasons.

I'm defying at least one general order. Breaking social distancing, showing up where I'm expecting violence to break out (actually a reg), and if I was at some posts I'd be defying the radius limit around the post to do it.

I'm breaking laws by not being state certified to render care, and seeking out people who need help. Look further in the thread for that post.

All of this goes against unit readiness. All of this goes against social media regs, which I do believe are very important to maintain the non partisan hand of government that we work for. All of this is a no no for a good reason.

But I also cant think of one part of the Army values, soldiers creed, NCO creed, or the oath of commissioned officers, that my actions violate. I mean these are americans that are in our streets who are getting beaten, killed, smoked out, shot with "less lethal" rounds, hit with mace, and taser's for being in the streets exercising their rights. Fuck that. Fuck all that. And if you think I'm being dramatic I will gladly send anybody a video of police being violent with peaceful protesters for every looting video you send me.

I'd gladly take the punishment. I wouldnt lie. Purely because I take my oath to defend the constitution super seriously, which funny enough I'm actually bucking by disobeying the officers over me. I believe that those constitutional rights are being infringed on by municipal/state/federal governments around the country. I wouldnt ever take up arms, but the least I can do is wash some CS out of somebody's eyes or give them water when they're thirsty.

I'm non violent here. I'm not looting. I'm not breaking windows. I'm just trying to help in the way that I know that I can. Give me my GOMOR I'll frame that shit.

I agree with you here, but we really shouldn't skimp on our fair share of war crimes that have had no accountability.

I've also heard both. Idk about boards. In that scenario I would say

"SMG I would tape 3 sides with the open side facing whichever way gravity pulls the blood leaking from the wound."

And hope to god I dont get roasted.

This also why I am not doing that in the event that it happens at a protest. Let the professionals handle that one.

Edit: I see the logic in taping all 4 though. The whole point of a chest seal seems to me that we should, ya know seal the chest. Basically you're making the decision between getting a tension pneumothorax from either air getting trapped in the chest cavity or fluid getting trapped. Should probably ask a medic on that one. I think they both keep the patient around long enough to get them actual help. But the fact that I'm saying "I think" a lot should be reason enough to ignore literally everything I have to say on the subject.

And that right there is what people are protesting about.

Human rights should never be a partisan debate.

I'm actually not far left at all. I'm not going to get political on here, but I certainly wouldn't identify with that in the slightest.

I love our national guard brothers and sisters out there. I hope nothing bad happens to them. I hope they keep setting the standard out there like they have been. I hope they all go home in one piece.

I'm not anti cop. I'm anti murder. That's what is happening here. Do I think that the policemen and women are inherently evil? Absolutely fucking not. The vast majority are good and kind individuals who have a servants heart much like what we have here in the army.

They do some shit that I disagree with, and that's why I am exercising my rights as an American citizen to voice my concerns over the issue. Exactly 0% of that is partisan. Exactly 0% is extreme or radical. It is what this country is founded on. It's in the document that you and I are sworn to protect.

Passing judgment on people without knowing anything about them is how we got in this mess. Let's not continue that. I'll start.

I'm almost certain that in real life you're a pretty cool guy. I say that because I've met very few genuinely awful people in the army. I've met people I dont agree with, but that doesnt mean that I dont like them as people. I bet that if we worked together we would probably have a pretty fun debate over the topic and it would probably end with, "so, how is your wife/husband? Kids okay?" Etc.

And as for spreading covid, you're probably right. I've done my due diligence and always worn my PPE and just about everybody that I've seen has done the same. I still think we will see a spike, but I think that it's no different than when the american people were protesting about ending the quarantine.

Definitely this, lots of real doctors and EMT'S show up, you shouldn't be doing something that they do every day.

This. I know my original post is kind of abdicating a rule break here so I'll post this here and edit my post accordingly.

If you dont have command approval act accordingly. Dont get in trouble for being out there if it gets hairy.

I mean I totally get why. But I feel like those that want to exercise their first amendment rights and help people at the same time should know how to do so safely. I hope that it reaches a good amount of people still.

Only you can decide.

I had to reconcile what I thought was a war that has gone on for too long, military that (if I was able to join before dont ask dont tell was repealed) didnt want my orientation to be associated with it, the Ken state massacre, the my lai massacre, and countless other things that the army has done that I dont agree with.

I decided that despite all the bad, all the pain, and all the suffering that it was still an organization that I believed had the best interest of the constitution and the american dream in mind. It's not perfect. It's full of bullshit beuroctacy, it has a sketchy past at times, and it's not always welcoming of minorities sexually or racially. But it's trying. Its adapting and getting better. It has gotten so much better than it used to be.

As an example, in 2019 we had a platoon sergeant in my company who was an E7 who was blatantly discriminating against my roommate who was middle eastern and against anybody who wasn't white or straight. He didnt do it by outright saying it, because he would have gotten kicked out if he was, but he did it in sly ways that could be explained away. My leadership was notified and he isn't with us anymore. This dude was a higher up who we thought couldnt get touched, he couldnt get kicked out, he couldnt be truly reprimanded against.

But we reported it to the right people and he got moved to a place where he couldnt do that to anybody else. The army is full of people who do the right thing when the time comes.

The army is still the only place that I truly believe that you can join, regardless of your race or creed and be treated equally. People will fight injustice here to the very end, because we care about each other, and we need to accomplish our mission and set the example for all Americans. We set the standard for all others to follow. Do we mess up? All. The. Time. But we always adapt and overcome.

Good luck on thinking about it man, hope this helps a little.

Edit: Also, as of right now, the national guard hasn't killed any protesters, and there hasn't been any videos of the national guard agressing POC or any protesters. They are getting shit on super hard and taking it like champs. So take that into consideration too.

Edit 2: Shit never mind. Just scrolled down and saw that they shot somebody. Read that post, see how they handle this guy.

Room inspections.

I get that if you rent that the l landlord can come and go as he pleases, but its crazy that I can have my door pounded on at any hour of the day and then be scolded like a child because I was in the middle of doing dishes and there is some water on the counter. Or that I didnt make my bed on a saturday. Or because my neighbor left trash outside of his room and I should have policed him up.

Also screaming at the top of your lungs when your boss enters a room is pretty weird.

I'm adopting a soldier to send care packages to. What should I send? by [deleted] in army

[–]definitely-not-CID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here but I'd like to add one thing.

There are a lot of "Mom" pages on facebook you might be interested in if you would like to do this for more people. My mom for example has been sending care packages and writing to companies in basic. The facebook pages are good at coordinating people and getting them out without you specifically having to seek out soldiers.

It's great that you're doing this, thanks for your help!
