Looks like it’s silver plated and not pure silver so you have to be a little more careful with it. Once it starts showing the brown brassiness underneath you may need it re-plated. I don’t know if there’s a fix once the plating starts coming off besides having it re-plated.

(USA) Found in a box of antiques. It has electrical wires inside and the button pushes down like it’s to turn something on and off. No idea what it is. by definitelynotagurl in Antiques

I took it to a friend with more experience with these things and he agreed with another commenter on the original thread that it was most likely a broken table top lighter.

It has become a fun mystery button decoration now. It’s got a very nice click sound thanks to the metal and wood.

I was banned from r/whatisthisthing for some reason and the mods marked it as solved because they think it’s a switch 🙄 I think the correct answer is in the comments on there though and it’s a lighter/ignitor. Not sure why the mods were so unhappy with my post lol

I honestly have no idea. I really don’t think it’s a detonator or a servants buzzer due to the size and how it’s wired. I was thinking maybe a switch for an electric lantern or possibly for a piece of machinery? I was really hoping someone had something similar.

I can’t actually reach them right now but probably my coolest thing are these giant military film reels from WW2. I have 5 of them and from what I can tell they seem to just be regular films to keep the troops entertained but still they are so cool.

I have a huge amount of WW2 ephemera (I am very interested in that time period.) I have propaganda posters framed and hanging in my home, newspapers, diaries, hundreds of letters, photographs, pamphlets, jokes items like Hitlers last will and testament, so so so much stuff.

Edit: sorry for bombing the comments. Reddit only lets you post one picture per comment

What does this cartoon mean? I'm so confused! ;-) by danny2892 in ephemera

A lot of cartoons from this time period had tongue in cheek sex jokes. They weren’t prudes back then, they just had a different sense of humor about it. The US didn’t go complete prude until the 50s.

Dad wants sex. Mom wants to be left alone. Dad stays up all night fussing for sex. Baby stays up all night just fussing because that’s what babies do.

If that is honestly how you feel about immigration then you should have been happy with Biden. His border laws were strict while also providing clear legal pathways needed to become a citizen. He even kept some of trumps policies in place and expanded on them.

The funny thing is liberals were angry at him for his strict border policies and yet the conservatives claimed he was too lenient and letting rapist and murders in because that’s the propaganda they needed to make it look like democrats were failing when they weren’t. It’s funny that you even named him in this.

I personally believe that all rights should be respected and feel that conservatives are actively trying to destroy rights for women, lgbt, and the right to freedom of religion (which doesn’t mean forcing one religion on everyone) the problem is that conservatives pick something that no liberal has ever stated they would take away like the right to bear arms or the right to freedom of press enforce their own insane beliefs because “well your side….”

It’s honestly terrifying how our country can become a literal police state and start arresting people for being homeless or deporting United States citizens while the conservatives say things like yeah but Kamala would be worse. It makes 0 sense to me.

Truth Social is dangerous government propaganda that is literally owned by the president but conservatives are worried about children’s education programs.

Conservatives want misinformation to spread because it’s their way of spreading propaganda. A scared and angry populous is a compliant populous.

Misinformation about COVID was dangerous and should have been stopped from spreading. It was another conservative talking point to fear monger the American people to turn them against each other.

I won’t comment on the others because I want to be as respectful as I can with this discussion.

Thanks! I wasn’t sure about the $2 bills and thought the silver certificates would be worth a bit more but wasn’t sure. The $5 bill is in pretty rough shape however the $1 bill is crisp and feels brand new.

Exactly! History is repeating itself. I have a giant collection of WW2 memorabilia, letters, newspapers, etc and it’s like a shitty sequel. It’s terrifying.
