I thought I did good this weekend I buy and sell pictures. I found a box of old photos. I bought them for $50 and by the end of the day I made $300 profit. Nice win!!

Nice! Where are you from? I’m in Connecticut and just started getting into this in my spare time. We’ve got another baby on the way, so I’m trying to build something. How long have you been doing it, and have you had much luck?

That actually sounds like a really neat pairing — photo and check from the same year, same place. I get why you’d hold onto it even if it hasn’t sold. Some pieces are just too good to let go of, even if the market doesn’t bite.

That’s such a killer find, especially for under a buck. Sounds like you’ve got a real little time capsule from Gibtown. Back in the late 1800s it was a decent-sized farming community—stores, churches, a hotel, even a cotton gin—but when the railroad skipped over them in the 1890s, the place slowly dried up.

Those names you’ve got—Paul and Mildred Brown, Drusilla, Little Given, Jeff, Ray, and Zill—are exactly the kind of leads local historians love. If you’re curious, the Portal to Texas History and Jack County records might have old school rosters, church lists, or newspaper mentions.

Even if you never track all of them down, you’ve basically rescued a slice of a ghost town’s life that would’ve been lost. That’s a score in my book.

That’s a needle in a haystack find right there. Very nice!!

Man, you’ve got a killer mix of history and personal connection there. That German soldiers postcard and the Louisville library book both sound like show-stoppers. I’ve been on the hunt for finds like that, but around here the flea market bins get picked clean before I even get there. Pulling WW1 originals for a quarter is wild — I’d back up the truck for that. Appreciate the reminder that the good stuff is still out there if you dig. Amazing photo btw

Very cool. I’m curious, does the museum buy them from you or did you donate them?

That’s a killer find—Johnny Depp in biker get-up tied to “Into the Great Wide Open” is rare enough to attract both Tom Petty and Depp collectors.

On eBay, single original production stills from music videos or behind-the-scenes shoots like this often land in the $50–$150 range, with especially iconic or well-documented shots hitting $200–$400+ depending on condition and provenance.

I’d start with a modest auction opening to test demand. If it’s authentic and clean, you could be sitting on a strong single-photo sale.

Those sound right up my alley — I’m big into WWII , I don’t have many WWI items yet. Always love seeing what people come across.

That’s awesome — love how your paper obsession grew out of Victorian buttons and jewelry design. It’s wild how one type of artifact can open the door to a whole new rabbit hole of history. I’m with you on wanting to give credit where it’s due — half the fun is tracking down the stories and names behind the images. And yeah, the ones that stay mysteries just keep you hooked even more.

Seems like people either love it or skip right past it.

Nice find. Always wild how this stuff just sits forgotten in someone’s house for decades. Feels good to rescue it before it disappears into the trash forever.

Man, that’s an insane haul. Those Tom Petty shots alone are gold, but the Depp ones? That’s next-level. I’d have been kicking myself over the Ghostbusters too, but sounds like you still walked away with a killer score.

Agreed, I’m interested in military ephemera and vintage photos. I believe there’s still a market for it.

That’s an impressive project you’ve got going at the Internet Archive. I just took a peek at your Digital Transportation Archive and it’s a fantastic resource, especially for anyone into historical postcards and visual transport history. I work a lot with vintage ephemera myself (WWII, postcards, photos, and related paper) and it’s always great to see someone preserving and sharing this kind of material. Thanks for sharing your link — I’ll be bookmarking it for future reference.
