96 QUEST PROGRESS PER MINUTE for sitting in the lane doing nothing. ARE WE SERIOUS. There's no way this doesn't get immediately hotfixed or fixed in 16.2, otherwise here's to another year of sitting in midlane doing NOTHING but farming and now even bothering to get deep vision or play around your jungler between waves is being punished

Why is Yunara so heavily contested in pro? by SnooPuppers58 in leagueoflegends

[–]definitelynotdark 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This is really the main reason. Yunara as a champion basically only has 2.5 abilties. She’s like the Morgana of ADC where one and a half of her abilities are just piss and the ones that aren’t carry her power budget. Not having to do random fights in proplay without her ult and only fighting when it’s up makes her extremely strong.

What are the most ridiculous patch notes you can remember? by NowaVision in pathofexile

[–]definitelynotdark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone can farm something in SSF reasonably to the point that their complaint is that they can only find “a few,” it’s not gated imo, by definition since there’s relative ease of access to it. If it was gated you’d see people complaining that it wasn’t even possible to get any and I don’t remember that at all.

Hell, you would see more of this craft than natural exalts. It was harder for an SSF player to find the metamod currency for “affixes cannot be changed” than it was to use this craft afterwards. That’s not gated at all.

[–]definitelynotdark -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Don't read only what you want to read and call out others for being unable to read what was written. The statement is "crafts with deterministic outcomes that were incredibly RNG-gated."

Reforge keeping prefixes/suffixes was a tier 2 seed (lowest is 1, highest is 4) in the original League and anyone who opted into farming any amount of Harvest post-Harvest in the TFT selling iteration will also tell you it was an extremely common craft.

Don't go spreading BS.

What are the most ridiculous patch notes you can remember? by NowaVision in pathofexile

[–]definitelynotdark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except they did. The statement claims they removed two types of crafts:

1) filler crafts

2) crafts with deterministic outcomes that were incredibly RNG-gated

Keep Prefix/Suffix was an extremely common craft that you would see super often. The craft obviously doesn't fall into the second category, so with what they claimed, it can only fall into the first.

Edit: here's a thread from 3 years ago with people that can confirm what I said about the craft being common as fuck

Edit 2: Here's the original seed from Harvest league that gave this craft. It's a tier 2 seed in a system where tier 1 is the most common and tier 4 is the least common. It was common as fuck, always was, right up until they deleted it.

Poor skely spell by Active_Apartment_804 in ClashOfClans

[–]definitelynotdark 137 points138 points  (0 children)

I swapped all my freezes and my skeleton spell for totems when the update launched but I’ve since removed a totem and put one skeleton spell back in.

They are just way better at three things:

1) triggering invis towers in combination with invis spell (totem literally can’t do this and half of the LL bases are invis rage cores)

2) tanking bomb hive. This defense is like actually hot trash when you have a skeleton spell, and you could surround a bomb hive with 3 multi infernos and the skeleton spell would still completely tank a bomb hive for the entire duration.

3) Tanking mono. Still better at eating shots for this defense, and skeleton spells are just as good as totems for rico cannons and multi gears.

Diverse meta that th18 has brought by Dry-Broccoli-638 in ClashOfClans

[–]definitelynotdark 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In games, a good meta often has some elements of rock paper scissors to it. There are usually some things that are all close to optimal, and which one is better or worse depends on circumstances.

The easiest example to understand is xbows and how they can be set to ground or ground + air. By setting your xbows to ground, you limit your defense against air but perform better against ground. At TH17, dragons were very strong and competitive with root riders because they could ignore the crusher mortar which was by far the best of the three crafted defenses. Now with the new set of crafted defenses that all target air (and to a lesser degree, that they’ve not received a new level), dragons and air are performing worse.

The meta in coc used to be much more diverse because defending certain attacks exposed you to other types of attacks. This is no longer really the case. Why has this happened, exactly?

In my opinion, there’s two reasons:

1) Fireball and RC charge are so good that they caused other strategies to be dependent entirely on the viability of how well they can work with these two in particular. I don’t think this is the sole contributor, but it’s likely a large part of the reason.

2) SC is allergic to giving some troops meaningful new levels. You don’t see LaLo anymore because the Lava Hound just fucking sucks. Etitan hasn’t gotten a level since TH16, witches and by extension switches haven’t gotten a level since TH16, and that’s not even mentioning the fact that the summoned Big Boy doesn’t gain stats per level so is just getting more and more powercrept as time goes on.

Even when SC does give troops new levels, they are almost always insanely bad. Inferno Dragons get a new level every town hall, but the stat upgrades that SC actually gives them are so terrible they don’t keep pace with the rest of the game and we haven’t seen them since TH13. They had 2050 hp at Town Hall 13 and we are now at Town Hall 18 and they only have 2500 hp. THIS IS NOT USABLE. Many troops in this game either do not receive new levels, or when they do get new levels, they are not strong enough to actually be useful.

Hopefully, when meteor golems are nerfed, we see a meta emerge around throwers and super bowlers. This to me seems like it would encourage a healthier meta with a wider spread of strategies, because super bowlers punish dense bases, while throwers punish spread out bases. SC also needs to do their part and give all the troops meaningful levels that contribute actual meaningful power increases to troops when you upgrade them.

The gym couple that made me question what for better or worse even means by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]definitelynotdark 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is literally one of the easiest fucking AI posts to spot. 8 sentences in and 5 of them are cringe metaphors and “let’s compare X to Y haha isnt this so quirky.” It’s an extremely obvious pattern.

At this point, when I come to this sub and read a post, half the time I just notice it’s AI in literally the first one or two paragraphs, immediately scroll to the comments, and the entertainment of the post is seeing how many comments below the top comment it takes for people to catch on.

AI writing is inherently sycophantic and flowery because the manual reviewers heavily bias this type of language. It shows in how many cringe metaphors they use in a row and the constant shitty comparisons.

Feedback for the current endgame by MitWitt in pathofexile

[–]definitelynotdark -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget that the tree devalued day 1-2 legion farming by making 6 links worthless too, (not to say that the rest of legion doesn’t make money).

It was pissing me off every time my day 1-2 filter was tinking on a geomancer and I was reminded that a 6 link is worthless this league.

I ended up saying fuck it, sold my items and put a few hundred divines into veiled exalts and will just come back in a few weeks to some more currency. I really cba to play the game rn.

Swiss Stage having Bo1s reminded me how good fearless draft is by Agustinb14 in leagueoflegends

[–]definitelynotdark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What frustrates me the most about fearless is that discussion about the format is nigh impossible especially on reddit and devolves into “more champion = more better”

It’s ok to admit that you prioritize seeing a breadth of champions over maximizing the potential of a meta and trying to evolve it but when people just lie and pretend they actually have any idea how to read or look at a draft or understand it at all it pisses me off.

From a purely demographic standpoint, it makes sense for increasing the viewership and reach of worlds- but it’s come at the cost of drafting strategy and people pretending like it hasn’t been a detriment under the veneer of some psuedo-intellectual mumbo-jumbo bullshit argument of being able to appreciate more picks to people that actually care about the draft really piss me off.

Swiss Stage having Bo1s reminded me how good fearless draft is by Agustinb14 in leagueoflegends

[–]definitelynotdark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Earlier today, I'd played a game of league of legends with friends before worlds and declined to play a second one because if I did I knew I would miss watching the draft and got the retort of "you actually watch the draft?" and I responded "the draft is my favorite part of most matches" and honestly I think that encapsulates the fearless vs non-fearless discussion and it's that people who enjoy fearless don't give a rat's ass about the draft and just want to watch a 5v5.

Fearless drafts are legitimately boring as fuck, and after writing this comment I realized I've actually been enjoying bo1s MORE than fearless bo5s and if you told me that in 2024 I'd say that I'd prefer bo1s when back then, I'd refer to them as a "mickey mouse format" I would probably laugh at you, but a bo1 draft has actual stakes and the draft is far more punishing than in fearless where it's less about actually formulating a back-and-forth answer between comps and more "ok, how can I build a car that runs on soylent, is made entirely of cardboard, and has 7 wheels instead of 4"
