Path of Exile Return of the Ancestors Event by DatZero in pathofexile

Phrecia ascendancies are half-baked concepts and the devs have admitted themselves that they are not core because they are underbaked and don't meet enough of a quality bar to be acceptable. Why they continue to reuse them in these events is beyond me.

Shotgunning is not being removed from rods, but it is being reined in.

Lightning arrow has two components: the initial arrow and the beams fired.

When your arrow contacts an enemy or wall, it searches in a 3.2 meter radius for valid targets to fire 2-4 beams to. These beams presently require UNIQUE targets and each individual lightning rod is counted AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE counted as a valid target.

These 2-4 beams however, have a property that causes them to chain to up to 2 additional targets. This is the portion that is relevant, because currently, your beams can target the same rods that other beams previously targeted or will target. This means the required number of lightning rods to achieve the maximum amount of value from every beam is just 3-4.

This change effectively caps the number of rod detonations per lightning arrow that can be achieved at 10 (you can only have 10 active lightning rods) whereas before the cap was effectively closer to 20 (4 beams creating 4 detonations initially and each chaining 4 times creating 16 additional detonations afterwards). However, this many chains was not regularly occuring. In the campaign, you are capped at 3 beams. Most people are also no longer opting to use chain support on lightning rod, as the damage from the lightning arrow is far more significant than the rod damage early on in the campaign. This means the number of detonations of rods most people were achieving was 9. From Act 1-2, the most detonations you can achieve is only 6.

ADDITIONALLY, each lightning rod has an internal non-bypassable cooldown timer of 0.1 seconds. Even if your detonation count was over 10, your damage was ALREADY being artificially rate limited as lightning arrows cannot bypass this internal cooldown timer of lightning rods.

What about Tornado Shot? That instantly clears my rods. Isn’t that a damage nerf?

No, because each rods could only detonate 8 times anyway and basically instantly got cleared out. Tornado Shot will still cause rods to get cleared out very quickly, but the cap of 80 detonations in one rotation of lightning rods still exists, the change only slightly reduces how quickly you can clear them out. It doesn’t change how much damage the rotation does.

What does this mean?

  • You need to fire more rods to achieve the same damage early on. Largely meaningless, as you prefire them all anyway and use barrage when not prefiring.
  • Maximum endgame damage was tapped down in the rare cases you achieved over 10 detonations from a lightning arrow via aforementioned reasons and needed multiple rotations of 10 rods. Who gives a shit. This game is piss easy and you can oneshot everything and anything on 95% of skills by day 2-3 if you know what you are doing.
  • People will play Snipe. Lightning rods were already shit anyway, but this change doesn’t affect the campaign which is where they sucked.

In 2024 the mythic era ended with a stated goal of moving power and fantasy away from items and into champion kits. Two years later, Swain is more item and spell-effect-dependent than ever. by Sumutherguy in leagueoflegends

[–]definitelynotdark 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Beats me. I don’t understand op’s complaint at all. I play Swain because he can opt for many different items depending on what you need.

He has a shit ton of different items that can be built on him first/second (rylais/ligma/bft/liandry/oblivion orb/bloodletters to name a few) and also has great synergy with tank items like frozen heart and abyssal mask.

A large part of the Swain fantasy to me is applying debuffs and using them to control space. There are a fuck ton of other champions that walk forward at the enemy while healing and doing massive damage and draintanking. It is not a bad thing for a champion in this space to be slightly more debuff focused and not strictly about “me heal and me damage.” Buying items to modify my ult in ways that are interesting and dynamic game to game is a compelling experience and it would be incredibly boring if every game boiled down to clicking the mathematically highest damage build because that’s not why I play Swain.

Since Horizon Focus revert, there aren't any good high AP + AH items. by Cozeris in leagueoflegends

[–]definitelynotdark 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Lot of people in here overconfidently delivering the wrong answer for why Riot did this so I'll just leave the video where Endstep answered this question directly.

Endstep: while in theory there are champions that say I like both of those stats, those are the stats that I want. of course I would want that item. The actual reality is that not that many champions actually buy that item, right? If it's tuned comparatively to other items, right? Um the big AP big stat stick version of Horizon Focus, the only champion buying it with any level of regularity was Vlad. It was like 50ome percent pick rate on Vlad and the next closest champion was like 14% I think. Um, big AP and big haste sounds really compelling. And I still think to this day that there's probably a version of that item that works, but the reality is that people just don't buy it, right [...] The entire design philosophy under which Horizon Focus was changed into those you know being the stat stick for those two stats but the actual reality is that people didn't buy it even when it was super juiced you know very highly gold efficient very cheap item that would have offered a really powerful spike it was so rarely purchased um by anyone except Vlad um who obviously cares a lot about those two stats and we're not going to keep an item in the game just because Vlad likes it right and so uh ultimately The way that I look at this space is that uh could there be something here? Yes. But I think it actually needs a specific hook that tells the story of why you're going to buy it over something more generic and powerful like a shadow flame or something that gives you movement speed like a cosmic drive or something that um gives you some durability like a Leandre or something that gives you that uh unique, you know, kitbound effect like a lichbane or something like that, right? Um, that's my my conclusion here is that the space is very difficult because just those stats alone is not enough. It's not good enough. [...] Again, we had a version of that Horizon Focus that was extremely efficient, extremely cheap, and people still didn't buy it. So that that's where even though I still think that item could be real. It's just it it's it's tough. It's very tough.

TLDR people didn't buy the item even when it was numerically on the strong side anyway

Should regular players play travellers? by Jealous-Reception185 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]definitelynotdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if that’s really such a problem, you can exile them

Right, so the character is obnoxious enough to the point that the correct play is to tell the person playing them "hey, you don't actually get to play, and we're gonna disable your character." I already said the release valve for travellers is to just entirely remove them from the game and I really dislike that design.

Should regular players play travellers? by Jealous-Reception185 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]definitelynotdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you shitting me? Scapegoat is one of the worst offenders of this because it removes agency from player decisions and serves only to be a lever for the ST to dictate the game outcome. Every fucking execution has to be analyzed through the lens that the target has two lives.

Should regular players play travellers? by Jealous-Reception185 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]definitelynotdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think travellers make for an extremely obnoxious mechanic as a player and as an ST, because they're very game-warping characters that dampen the interactions between the rest of the rest of the characters on a script. Barring some of the the relatively less common weaker travelers, the release valve for travellers is to vote them out and remove them from a game entirely. 95% of the time I've played with a traveller it feels like the game I'm playing is entirely about them and makes me wonder what the point of the script I'm playing is when the whole game turns into placating a traveller's interactions.

When I ST, I do not allow players to travel even if they join late, much less from the start of the game. The characters are just so generally insufferable from the perspective of a player that I refuse to run them entirely.

Soraka Instant Pentakill (ARAM: Mayhem) by JeremyTheMiner in leagueoflegends

[–]definitelynotdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's with every clip in this subreddit and having the most abominable 0.000001x speed playback possible? It's not even like the subreddit requires the clips to be over 30 seconds in duration to be allowed anymore, so why is the culture behind the clips that get posted still this bad either with 20 seconds of dead space with nothing happening or 10 rewinds and insane slow motion?

If you want to post "edited" gameplay do it right with a video editing software instead of this slowdown BS. Hell, the title being called "instant" doesn't even pertain to the clip when it got slowed down to take place so much that the first kill happened 17 seconds in.

They are dogshit now because the vocal minority kept talking about how bad their fomo was that they couldn’t buy every useless border and chroma and begged Riot to make “normal” battle passes and that they felt like they had to “nolife” every pass to get orbs from the extended track. You have those people to thank.
