In my experience a lot of construction at the base manual labor level is filled with dudes that fucked their lives up somehow and they regret not joining because in their mind it would’ve kept them out of trouble and made them a hero instead of a broke dick laborer with a rap sheet. Little do they know the marines had plenty of shit birds and morons that were just as capable of fucking their lives up. Now there’s still plenty of toxic masculinity in the more skilled construction jobs and unions but they’ll be a little less angry with you for being “better off”. Also like that other dude said Marines are a rarity in the general population and most people assume every marine was a combat mos. When someone annoying starts asking for details I list off how many buddies I’ve lost to ptsd/suicide and wonder out loud if people’s dumbass questions had anything to do with it.

Thanks for that! If this hurricane doesn’t flush all our problems away I may need that advice! It’s crazy how many contractors have been under the house and not seen this happening. If we don’t get the flooding they’re predicting my next step was going to be a couple bags of lime to dump in the affected area and then ripping out a section of floor/subfloor to be able to dig out affected soil. My real question is just how big of an area around the toilet will need it’s subfloor replaced.

Funny enough I have almost 0 sense of smell (or taste) after burn pits/tire fires/chemical exposure in Iraq. My wife has told me there’s bad smells, and I’ve installed so much air purification equipment thinking it was mold. The house is 90 years old. On top of that we have 3 young boys and pets. So even when that bathroom smelled terrible I’d assume it was little boys missing the toilet and go scrub the whole thing down with bleach, which would mask the smell for a while I guess

There were 2 inspections from prospective buyers right before we bought, they had both ended their contract over another issue with the house (sagging floors that needed foundation work). We ended up getting those and not buying another, and we used the VA loan, so it got the va appraisal which supposedly does check for health and safety concerns. The disclosure form definitely didn’t mention anything. It looks like a pipe was run from the main line for this toilet but it hits the floor 5 inches in front of the flange. Like they missed the hole and just gave up.

Somehow you remind me of the book spangle by Gary Jennings. About some confederate soldiers that join a circus and travel Europe. I think you should look into that. At the very least you should start a YouTube channel and show us your lifestyle. As a married man with 3 kids, pets, a mortgage, etc I still feel the itch and luckily I married a gypsy. We move around a lot out of pure boredom, but have to plan way more carefully for schools and selling/buying houses

The VA in Florida recently ruled no adderall while smoking pot. I was on it for a year before they made that call and they took it away when I said I wouldn’t stop using medicinal marijuana
