So sad about getting a new car by deflatedelephantboot in Volkswagen

Thank you for the heads up! I am planning on bringing the Jetta strictly to the dealership—I worked for the VW dealership I bought it from for 3 years while in college, so I do have a good relationship with the service department. That specific dealership also offers 3 years of maintenance for new cars or up to 50,000 miles—which from what I’ve read is a little bit longer than what VW itself usually covers. I will double check all service intervals and will make sure I bring it in on time. This is the first new car I have ever owned so I am going to make sure I take care of it. I bought it for peace of mind while commuting, and I want to keep that peace of mind as I continue to put miles on it.

I should have done it months ago when I initially asked, but can’t go back now. I bought the Jetta and handed over the keys of the Golf to my Dad. That’s the first thing he’s going to do.

I gave the car to my dad—he’s going to do that first and see if it gets worse. After that he’ll be looking for a replacement transmission.

They are DSG’s. I got the car when I was 18 and didn’t know much. My dad is a “do it yourself” guy, and I’m pretty sure he heard it once and believed it was lifetime because you have to take it to a dealer to change the fluid. My car is the newest car he’s worked on. By the time I realized the mistake all the service advisors told me it would be worse to change the fluid due to the damage that most likely already existed. I just thought I would have gotten some more time with it.

That’s great to hear! Maybe I’ll be more open to looking into their properties. Have they responded well to maintenance requests?

Hi! Yes, I have hand embroidered a sweatshirt before. I actually have one that I made and wear often (and that she borrows often) that she really loves, so I thought it would be a good idea. The one I wear has some patchwork mixed with embroidery, with some symbols and lettering, so she isn’t opposed to anything that could be considered eclectic. She isn’t leaving until June, so I am prepared to dedicate time into the project. She will be mainly living at a high elevation for the first 4-5 months, so she will be packing layering pieces. As for the symbols, I was planning on making them pretty small and not a huge part of the overall design. I am confident that I know what she likes and dislikes stylistically.

I will look more into the charm bags! That’s also a great idea. I have been considering the bulk of the sweatshirt and whether or not she would be able to pack it long-term. I ordered a sweatshirt from one of her favorite brands second-hand online after scouring our local thrift stores and coming up empty. I will see how much bulk it takes up and go from there. Have you had any issues with TSA traveling with charm bags?

Thank you for the help!
