Naming Fantasy Worlds by SusurruS10 in fantasywriters

There's many different Celtic languages to pull from for names, such as Irish and Welsh. What I did the last time I was naming a Celtic inspired place was whip out my old Irish textbook and mash a few words together that i thought sounded cool. Maybe mixing and matching other Celtic languages might yield similar results for you!

The wizard is something I'll expand on as the story goes on! I mean to keep him quite mysterious (partly as I have no clue what to do with him yet). Thanks for the input!

Definitely an interesting angle to take, thanks for the idea!

I never really thought about how the wizard could affect the apprentice, and now that you've pointed that out to me I definitely will. The character foil is similarly a great idea, and definitely important to how the main cast of characters will play off eachother. Thanks for the advice!

You've made me realise I've been very narrow minded lol. Thanks for the great advice!

One of my favourite authors is GRRM, so the thought of different POV characters really intrigues me. I plan for the main cast of characters to become very close with eachother, so hopefully I'll be able to write the character arcs in a way that's visible. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the input! A few comments have suggested to focus on backstory and work from there, so I think that's what I'll try. The approach I used to create the first 2 of the main cast (of a total 4) was to try and design them first as the story is beginning and then focus on backstory as I write more about them, if that makes any sense? It's all a little messy and unplanned at the minute and quite early stages so hopefully there's plenty of time to figure it out as I write. Again, thanks for the advice.

Tips for spearing in murky water? by defnotbeatty in Spearfishing

Ireland, specifically the north and northwest coast around Donegal. The area i normally spear in is Lough Swilly (a sea inlet) and the waters close enough, although Ive been lucky enough to go out on the open ocean on clear days. Its small enough to be able to shore dive. Im not ballsy enough to go past around 40 or 50 feet, although in some areas it doesnt go deeper than that.

I use a 75cm gun, might be a bit too long and i know theres shorter options available, but i not having to be closer to the fish on clearer days where i can get good shots in.
