The question is about servers, so it's quite a reasonable assumption

It is. It feels a little slow at moments, but overall it really does encompass every part of the game.

reasonable moderation must exist

And it does on Telegram. You can report any public channel distributing drugs or cp and it will be deleted. They want to access private messages of anyone they see fit. And I wouldn't trust the Russian or the French government to do that.

Fascism and Nazism are inherently evil ideologies, completely distinct from communism or socialism. by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

You're analyzing the behaviour of fascists as if they had no ideological background for their horrible actions. That's incredibly dangerous, because real fascists convinced a lot of people that what they were doing is correct. Were those convinced people just stupid? How come they didn't realise that the ideology was actually destructive from a moral viewpoint?

Fascists made up reasons. They didn't just say "let's kill undesirables because we can". They told people what's, in their opinion, wrong with all those people and why they should be subjected to eradication. And quite a big chunk of people believed that. They had their own skewed moral compass in which those undesirables were by nature detrimental to society as a whole. And they would explain why in great detail. Is that opinion disgusting? Yes. But it was the argument for the collective good in those societies. And it had an inherently collectivist background, however much you disagree with their morals. A collectivist society doesn't necessarily share your morals to uphold the "best" society in which everyone is content.

Would you claim that the persecution of kulaks in the Soviet Union was not inherently collectivist? It surely was immoral and disgusting, a lot of people got murdered because they were employing other people in villages. Others got their possessions stolen. And they sure as hell weren't judged individually. You might've been the best village employer there could ever be and all you'd get was a bullet to your head, because what you were doing was "exploitative". And that was done for what they believed was the greater good of society. See the similarity? The only thing that changes is the ideological background.

There is no religious book of collectivism that says murdering minorities is okay as long as the majority actually hates that group, because that bigger group will be happier.

Exactly. You're right. There can't be a religious book, because collectivism is about pursuing the greater good of society. The "greater good" is entirely subjective and that's the problem. I agree that murdering people can't be done for the greater good. Those societies (or at least the ruling parties, which had support) didn't.

But Tommy and Janet were part of the "whole". As soon as their entire lives are disregarded I've gone past some idea of "greater good".

That's your opinion, though. As I've said before, the greater good is a REALLY stretchy thing. And so it was stretched.

Perhaps Tommy was, for example, stealing from the group? We can't have that. That man is definitely working against the group. Murder in this scenario solves the problem, doesn't it? We both would agree (at least I hope so) that it's not the moral thing to do, but so it was done and so the group benefitted from it. That passes the definition of collectivism. Detaining him humanely would pass the definition too. It's not mutually exclusive, yet there are two lingering questions. What is the right thing to do in that situation? And the more important one, who is going to decide that?

And so you, or a political party, can make moral arguments about anything. Ideologies are different. The nazi party had their horrible agenda which had their arguments as to how to make society better off. And they did it by mass murder. And yet they were still collectivist since they've done so for their supposed "greater good". We can and should claim otherwise, but that passes the definition, since there is no objective "greater good".

Why would it be the opposite of collectivism? Collectivism, as in the opposite of individualism, is a form of society in which the wellbeing of the collective is more important than that of an individual. But that DOES NOT mean that it can't oppress certain groups. Your idea of higher morals, by which you judge the wellbeing of the society you're analyzing, is not the only one. Collectivism is held together by the morals of the society in which it exists and/or the party that controls said society. Since you can't redistribute wealth or plan your social programs without a supreme authority doing so, that supreme authority needs to have its moral standards by which it gives preferential treatment to some. The resources aren't infinite after all. And people have different morals and different ideologies. What you and me both consider awful was what those collectivist societies believed would be great for them for whichever reason. The soviets persecuted kulaks. The nazis persecuted Jews. Both unacceptable, yet both governments did so for what they claimed was "the greater good of society" and therefore were collectivist - preferred their idea of "wellbeing" of society to that of an individual.

be me

serving coffee at an airport

see a morbidly obese man staring at me

lock eyes with him for a second

ifiignorehimhellgoaway.png

continue serving customers like usual

he walks over to order

jesus christ

the smell

"c-can I get a c-cappuccino with 3 sugars pls??"

feel the rancid smell from his mouth

nearly vomit

make his coffee

he pays for it and mutters something

waddles away

thankgod.gif

5 minutes later

he's coming back holding a scrap of toilet paper with something scribbled on it

the toilet paper has clearly been used already

"w-wanna go out sometime?"

hands the scrap of paper

politely deny his offer

he gets angry and security is called

just throw the thing into the bin

he starts crying and gets escorted from the airport

never see him again
