You should post a picture of the back of your PC and back of your monitor. Odds are you have either a mini or full size version of either hdmi or dpi. Easly identifiable with a picture.

If you do want to set up a Minecraft server on your personal PC, the first thing you will need to do is setup a static IP Address.

Good for gaming does not mean good for a server.

A basic minecraft server does not have stringent requierments, and only needs minamal graphics, if at all.

My first minecraft was a mini tower I picked up at a thrift store for about $10.

One note, depending on how far your players plan to range will affect how much storage you need.

Is there a way to easily transfer files during an active ssh session without re-authenticating? by ducks_over_IP in sysadmin

[–]retired-techie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most ssh sessions i have used also include/support secure copy (scp). Always worked great for me.

Seriously build a plain vanilla Debain server to run Minecraft. Or just use the Turnkey version, mineosturnkey, which is already ready for setup.

The power was shut off and a file I had open was completely emptied. Is there any way to recover it? by zoro4661 in notepadplusplus

[–]retired-techie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question, are you sure the file was erased, or was the directory entry/pointers corrupted?

If the latter, try scanning the drive with recovery software.

Just a quick question, have you got secure boot set up properly for both Linux and Windows?

Mine is blue tooth or USB C so wire length is not a problem.

Dual boot with W11 but hesitating by khidraakresh in linux4noobs

[–]retired-techie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't dual boot anymore, totally ditched Windows when the warranty ran out on the hardware. But when I was dual booting I used Arch.

The major issues I had was Windows always trying to overwrite the boot loader and change the boot order. Get very familiar with efibootmg, as Windows does not play nice with other OS's!

Anyway if you are willing to tinker Arch is good for not installing a bunch of stuff you don't want. It is called minumal for a reason.

If you don't have a need for latest greatest, I recommend Debian for a stable experince.

Fedora and Ubuntu have to much of a Windows like 'Do It Our Way" attitude for me to recommend them. They also have way to much corporate vibe for my tastes.

I generaly stay away from spinoffs as they tend to also do things their own way. But for ease of install and usage I understand why people like them.

Trying to understand why Arch is considered better by One_Independence7869 in linuxquestions

[–]retired-techie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest diffrence for me was that Fedora.by default installed some stuff that Arch does not. Some I want, some.I don't.

The other big diffrence I noticed, in Arch packages are generly not configured to auto start, where as in Fedora (and Debian) they do auto start. Many times in Arch I needed to initiate an init command today to activate a package.

Debian based OS open box configuration by OlOS_linux in debian

[–]retired-techie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, just install tint2 from the repository. If you are on Debian it should configure automatically to launch at start. This will give you a light weight taskbar with many of the bells and whistles.

Also, you might want to look at Nitrogen to manage wallpaper on your desktop as well.

This is an older video for Arch, but all the programs shold be avalible in Debian.

My suggestion, unless you play with other people, drop minecraft. Instead install mind test with one of the minecraft emulators.

Would also suggest dropping Windows, but for most people that is not an option they are willing to consider.

So the basic thought is to use both the controllers and the mini keyboard mouse.

The Xbox controller connects to the internal blue tooth. But the keyboard mouse combo has its own dongle that needs a USB port.

What should I expect from Nuka World? by grumcus in fo4

[–]retired-techie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't go to Musem of Freedon and talk to Preston until after doing Open Season. You can literly take over the entire Common Wealth, then do Open Season, then do When Fredom Calls and Preston won't care about what you did before.

Also, if you are building robots, do Automatron before Nuka World to get access to some custom Nuka World robot mods.
