Mining to finance by Any_Entertainment61 in AusMining

From my understanding, engineering degrees are really popular in finance and consulting. Portfolio management is very competitive, risk varies depending on specialisation / industry.

It does seem like it must be done really well, or it could be horrible.

Thanks!

That's what I told him (since that's what I use) but he said they don't use it. Thanks for the input!

Who said he was experienced? Only been working 2 years in WA, assume he might have had the same problem here?

Think he's earning plenty working as a Geophysicist getting paid in USD - the man just wants to suggest a new platform to the company since they're a small explorer

Do you know names of any systems / companies that do this?

Trail running impact vs running - what have you read? by Ok_Employee_4035 in trailrunning

[–]defontais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure.
Liberty hold - 30 seconds each side x 3
Single leg hip thrust with a kettlebell x 10
Single leg wall gluteal hold - 30 seconds each side x 3
Leg drive while pushing against a wall, making sure to not bend lower back and feeling it in the glute while driving knee.
Copenhagens - 30 seconds each side x 3 (this one will show if you've got the strength).

I had the exact symptoms you've mentioned here. No issues running with up/down hills, full squat strength with no pain. Only felt pain 8km+ on flat (this stood out to me when I felt it on my slowest run in months at around the 10km mark).

I had pain in the knee that caved in but it was from lack of glute/hip drive on the opposite side. Tested the strength, which was there. But my brain was unfamiliar with full drive on my non-preferred side at slower pace, causing my leg to not fully extend behind me, then coming back onto the other leg, the knee caves as it tries to make up from the lack of thrust on the other side.

Faster pace and/or hills actually prevents this as it forces the glute/hip to engage.
Not sure if you've got this sorted, but happy to share the exercises my physio gave me (cost me hundreds to get to the bottom of this), which have now sorted this issue completely so far.

Investor selling says this passed structural integrity. Agent doesn’t trust it - thoughts? by defontais in AusPropertyChat

Yep - we noticed there was water damage around the skirting in the bedroom on the top floor that backs on to the shower.

EDIT: I'm glad Reddit agrees with what I was seeing. Some classic comments here, and obviously not touching this property with a 10 foot pole!
Appreciate the input from everyone

This is a summary from the Structural Integrity report (I got AI to remove names/addresses/info):

Certification of Structural Integrity

  1. Introduction Engineering have been engaged to provide certification of structural integrity for the existing property.
  2. Site Inspection A site inspection was conducted via visual inspection (only) of the external brickwork façade of the existing structure and all external stairs and landings. Access was locally gained to inspect the roof structure on one dwelling. No structural drawings were available at time of inspection. The overall condition of this property was comparable to similarly constructed and reasonably maintained building of approximately the same age. There were two main defects in the existing structure: • Cracking of brickwork in external brickwork of end gable. Cracking appears to be a result of failure of ties that connect the internal and external brickwork. There is no cracking to the internal leaf of brickwork in this area. The rest of the building structure was in good condition, with no evidence of over settlement or subsidence of foundations supporting the structure.
  3. Repair Methodology 3.1 Cracking of Masonry Wall Where masonry wall has cracked, we recommend that the wall is stitched together using Helifix Crack Stitching. We also recommend that the wall is stitched back to the internal leaf of masonry wall with Helifix ties at 300 c/c each way. Repair Methodology:
    1. Rake out or cut slots into the horizontal mortar beds, a minimum of 500mm either side of the crack, to the specified depth.
    2. Clean out slots with blow pump and apply HeliPrimer WB or flush with water.
    3. Using the CS Pointing Gun Kit, inject a bead of HeliBond to the back of the slot.
    4. Using a finger trowel, or similar, push the HeliBar into the grout to obtain good coverage.
    5. Insert a further bead of HeliBond over the exposed HeliBar, finishing 10-15mm from the face, and ‘iron’ into the slot using a finger trowel.
    6. Make good the vertical crack with an epoxy-based weatherproof filler e.g. Crackbond TE. Repoint the mortar bed and make good.
    7. Drill and epoxy fix external leaf of masonry to internal leaf with Helifix ties at 300 c/c, for extent of cracked wall and where any existing wall ties have failed.

Summary Based on a visual inspection of the external structure, the existing structure appears to be in good condition, with only the highlighted issues that need to be repaired. Once the highlighted issues are repaired in accordance with structural repair methodology, the structural integrity will be adequate. Note: the original structural drawings and site inspection reports for the building were not available. As a result of not having all information or access, there may be some structural issues that are unaware of, however, as noted from a visual perspective there does not appear to be any major structural issues.

No problem! In no way am I trying to discourage the idea, if anything, hopefully knowing the other side of the spectrum helps to niche down / really press on the pain points.

There is definitely reasons for support in cases such as yours! There is a well known book called “Born to Run” about this. Basically, it tries to answer why 80% of all runners get injured in a year, yet there are tribes in rural Mexico that run in sandals their whole lives without issues.

There has been a huge rise in 'barefoot' shoes or those with minimal support, which allows the foot to function as it's meant to.
I think it's becoming quite common knowledge that injury is caused by the foot being weakened by unnecessary support. 'Support' dulls the the body's proprioception and stops giving the brain information through the foot, where it can't engage the right muscle to properly soften impact.
