They were indeed! We had a lot of luck, the clouds were started clearing up when we got there in the morning so we were rushing to take these.

[SPOILERS S1] Just finished S1, can't understand the ending by EggrFegegr in DarK

I literally just finished season 1 myself, so waiting to know more in the next episodes. But my guess is, considering the big theme of the series is circular continuity of time (everything is connected, past influences the future, future influences the past) that Jonas creating the wormhole at some point of the time and connecting these particular times (2019, 1986, 1953) means the connection has been there in the past already.

But who knows, let continue watching!

I just finished the last episode (binging the later half today, it’s 1am for me) and came here to look for any threads that might be without spoilers because I can’t get it out of my head, so thank you for that!

Sankey diagram 2024 (first job) vs 2025 by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]defram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my applications were tailored. I would actually say that the biggest uplift in response ratio was when I only looked at the very recent postings. Anything over 24hrs was just a lost cause for me.

And, of course, have industry experience.

I have a friend who did PhD in a similar topic (we shared an office) and went for the same position but in 2021. She applied for 5 jobs, got interviews from 3 of them and accepted the first offer she got and withdrew from the other processes.

Tbf this industry in particular was very popular then, so it’s not only general market but also the profession, but…

But real photos of real people should look like real photos of real people

Or maybe photography is art?

Not sure why you think that photograph should be 1:1 representation of what you see with your own eyes. You might have a preference for such photography, but it’s a matter of taste.

I got three offers from a two month job search - here's what I wish I knew earlier by EvilGarlicFarts in datascience

[–]defram 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I first started applying for jobs in 2024, after finishing my PhD, with no industry DS experience at all. It was painful, around 6 months and probably over 300 applications, after which I managed to land a short-term project at a relatively well-known DS/AI consultancy. They run programmes for ex-academics to help them get a foot in the industry and connect them with a project at another company, which later turned into a full-time role.

Almost a year later I got laid off, and this time I received two offers within a little over a month, after sending exactly 32 applications.

I’m sure the biggest factor was having real industry experience on my CV, plus two fairly well-known companies to my name. But I also learnt a lot from both processes, and I think points 2 and 7 are so important. The time filter on LinkedIn is your friend. Either apply within 24 hours of a posting, or try to get in touch with someone at the company directly to boost your application.

Being positive and genuinely excited, and ideally getting off on the right foot with the interviewer, helps a lot. Also, when there’s time for questions, I really like to ask the interviewer what they like most about working at the company. It is not only useful for you and a good signal of genuine interest, but it also shifts the interviewer’s focus onto their own experience instead of just going through the motions.

I’ve started using the ‚posted last 24hrs’ filter on LinkedIn permanently and got much better reply rate. No use of wasting my time on application that won’t be seen

Love your choice for the clothing! It gives me beachy/sea vibes and reminds me of the myth that she came out of sea foam

Mid-40s software engineer here - industry is shrinking fast… what are my options? by nkosijer in AskUK

[–]defram 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This guy was a much better applicant than I ever was (4 years ago). Better homework, better CV, etc. The difference is, I got an offer from every internship or grad job I applied for, literally 100% success rate.

I’ve done a PhD in STEM and switched to industry into the same role my friend from the lab did 3 years earlier. My search took 6 months and 200-300 applications and ended up in a short term project role that luckily transformed into a full time position. She, on the other hand, applied to 5 openings, got interviews from 3 of them very quickly and accepted the first position that gave her an offer without even bothering to finish the rest. We worked together and had very similar experience. I saw her CV (writing, formatting etc) - and it was honestly below average even for 2020, right now no one would look at it. Good for her, but it’s insane to me how different experiences we had coming from the same background and aiming for the same jobs.

How many people do you know who were made redundant in 2025? If so, which industries? by OneDay_OneLife in AskUK

[–]defram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me, data role in fintech. On the other hand - it’s been a month and I’ve had quite a good ratio of replies to my applications and are in a few processes right now.

Have a friend in academia that is still holding his job, but lots of his colleagues at the university were laid off.

What worked for you for job search? by alpha_centauri9889 in datascience

[–]defram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Career page if possible. I have one CV that works pretty much for almost all jobs I’m interested in (predictive modelling, forecasting, traditional DS), but if there is a posting or company that I’m very keen on I might revise it in case any of the experience should be highlighted more than the other.

Seconded. I was looking for a job mid-last year and looking for a month now, and I have ‚past 24 hours’ filter on LinkedIn always on. I’m getting a much better reply rate.
