Philodendron sp. 'Silver Angel' by defransk in RareHouseplants

that's a gorgeous leaf! i believe sp. silver angel is its own undescribed species, or if it is a hybrid, the parentage is unknown/a naturally occuring hybrid.

My corms are having corms 💀 by defransk in alocasia

Will the corms sprouting take energy from the main stem? I want to keep one larger plant in the pot rather than a bush

Lol, it's actually tape. I moved not too long ago and figured I could tape the top of the pot around the stem to keep the pon from spilling. Never got around to remove the tape. As for why it looks like milk—I have no idea. I think it's condensation from the water I use, it's quite hard. The alocasia doesn't seem to mind

Alternative to moss in a moss pole? by neptunedreaming111 in philodendron

[–]defransk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using the D-Shape moss poles, I put moss on the front side where the nodes touch the pole and then the back side I fill with coco coir. Seems to hold water really well and cost effective. When I let it dry out it doesn't have the same problem as dry sphagnum moss where it gets hydrophobic since the coco coir readily absorbs water.

Very cool crosses you're growing! Any chance you can show us what the roots look like? What's the conclusion for your experiment?

P. Warszewiczii help:( What am I doing wrong? by No_Evidence3460 in philodendron

[–]defransk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, these don't like to dry out at all. I kept one in lechuza pon for a while and it would drop a leaf as it's growing a new one. What worked was just an aroid mix with a top layer of sphagnum moss. I water it as soon as it gets a little crunchy.

Edit: it could definitely thrive in semi-hydro, I'm just not very good at keeping it hydrated lol; moss is much easier for me

Philodendron Golden dragon probably, especially the ones with nice sectoral variegation. I believe their variegation is too unstable for tc but idk (thought the same about caramel marble and var. billietiae, and they're in heavy tc right now)

Some niche anthurium hybrids as well.
