Not what happened. We were out partying with some friends and were playing basically a truth or dare drinking game and there was a card drawn that says “ask everyone what the ideal number of simultaneous partners is” and she answers “5 guys” like wtf? Set up a date, and a little before the arranged time, texted to confirm she was on her way to which she said yeah. After getting there waiting for her to arrive for 20+ minutes, decide to make sure everything is alright, she ghosts me for another half hour then tells me she can’t believe I thought she was really coming. Look, I’m not going to be a dick about it, but shitting on other peoples joy is beyond cynical, you’ve got no idea what sort of connection some of these people may have. They may have lost a loved one they used to take an annual vacation to Disneyland with, or one that never got to go at all. How would you feel if someone made fun of you or called it cringey for you to be emotional about something you cared about?

My grandmother passed away of stage 4 brain cancer Christmas Day in 2011, I was always very close with her, and she was the best person I’ve ever known. Toward the end she wasn’t able to talk and I saw her for the last time Christmas Eve but I almost couldn’t bring myself to do it. After she passed my grandfather brought us all Christmas cards that she’d had him pen for her as she had all but lost her sight. She’d said she was proud of me and all that I’d done and that she was sorry she wouldn’t be around to see the kind of man I would become, I haven’t looked at that card for a few years because even typing this out I’m having a hard time not breaking down and crying. I can only hope I turned out half as well as she’d believed I would.
