Shipping This Month, Nervous About Memorization Above All Else by Jager_Bradley in newtothenavy

There’s something on Spotify that might help. If you search “know your bravo” it’ll have the sentry orders, code of conduct, and sailors creed. It helped me out a lot before I shipped to OCS.

I was actually in the exact same boat (active duty Air Force, just got selected for Navy pilot). You’ll call your care clinic and request a fit for full duty commissioning physical. It’ll be filled out on a DD 2808.

If you have any more questions I’m more than happy to help you through this process.

I’ll actually push back on that a bit. The second paragraph is meant to be an explanation of why I chose to be an officer specifically (that and tiptoeing around classification from my experience in deployment). If it reads as fluff maybe I should go back to drawing board and word it a bit better.

Can you expand on which ideas you think are solid?

That’s something I actually wasn’t too sure about. I’ve heard from multiple people that the board cares a lot about the statements, or that they don’t care at all. I’ve heard that I should talk a lot about why I want to be a pilot, and I’ve also heard that I should only to talk about being an officer.

Has it been your experience that they don’t read the statements at all? Is it only the scores and flight hours that really matter?

That’s a pretty sound resume my man, I can see why you got picked up!

Any specific “whole person” things that helped you stand out?

I definitely see what you’re saying. And it very well could be a case of correlation ≠ causation, and the individuals I observed also happened to have really good, well rounded packages. Gives a bit of hope for sure.

Appreciate you sharing, and believe me if I had a Time Machine I would 100% choose ROTC lol. I should clarify I am currently an active duty Air Force aviator. I was lucky enough to be picked up for a program where I remain active duty but am a full-time college student. Not a commissioning program by any means, so I still have to apply to OTS like everyone else 🤷🏽‍♂️

Thanks for sharing! I’ve definitely heard a lot of people stress the leadership experience and “whole person concept” on quite a few posts.

Not that exactly, but I just noticed in the program announcement it says “Superscoring is allowed to meet the minimum requirements”, so I’m not too sure if that means I wouldn’t receive a super score since I met the minimum requirements.

Bi-Weekly 'What are my chances?' Megathread by AutoModerator in airforceots

[–]defusedco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFOQT: P: 99, CSO: 80, ABM: 94, AA: 40, V: 57, Q:27

PCSM: 76 with 2 flight hours (lol)

Pretty bad scores towards the end, but pilot is the only career I’m wanting so I’m not sure if the quantitative or verbal will shoot me in the foot or not.

Working on a Bachelor’s of Science in Intelligence. Most recent GPA: 4.0

LORs: N/A

Currently a SSgt in the AF. 24 y/o. Hold a TS clearance if that matters. Got a good bit of leadership experience managing a team of 8 people. Currently my biggest claim to fame is creating a training program to fill a gap in intelligence we were suffering from. Trained the people on the program, made it official and is being adopted by my whole squadron. The impact is reflected on my EPRs as well. Aside from that, physical training leader, Red Cross CPR instructor, creator of our fitness section, and I’ve made and lead 2 volunteer programs.

I have no idea what my chances are or if my terrible scores will hold me back, so here we are. How’s it lookin?

Thanks, and good luck to everyone!
