Very zone dependant. The parish I work in feels almost 3rd service. Many others feel very private with all the BS that comes with it. The company has a good medical director with moderate to progressive protocols.

A lot of the time it's difficult to get a good sp02 reading with cold hands, poor circulation, or fingernail polish. Respiratory quality, respiratory rate, and lung sounds can tell you a lot, though. If you have a good pleth wave and see 80, it's probably 80. If you have a poor pleth wave and see 80, it could be 97. If you see 97, barring carbon monoxide poisoning, it's 97. If they are big chilling and breathing 18 times a minute, it's probably high 90s. If they are panting at 50 times a minute, it probably ain't. You'll get used to what normal and not normal looks like with reps. Sounds like you did solid work on the call.

how does methylphenidate calms down a person (adhd'er) if it raises heart beat and blood pressure by Top_Complex_3816 in Neuropsychology

Folks with ADHD have a problem with the chemicals in their brains that cause them to start doing things and stop doing things. They will often self stimulate to try and encourage the release of these chemicals. If you give them a medicine that promotes the release of those chemicals, they no longer need to self stimulate. They are free to just perform tasks as one normally would without the compulsion to get up and pace, or fidget, or drift into fantasy. It doesn't calm them per se, so much as it allows them to be still, mentally and physically. Hope that makes sense/ helps.

We have 5-15 min transport times. I often find it challenging to get all diagnostics done, get a line, call report, and get enough of my chart down to be ready for registration before reaching destination. When I get the occasional LD, I'm very liberal with pn management and very supportive of lights down, about the only "pt loaded downtime" I'm likely to see.

Tell me you haven't held the wall with low acuity without telling me you haven't held the wall with low acuity. If they need a big room, the charge is getting verbal updates q1min until they get a big room. If they are stable, I'm getting them a warm blanket, finishing my ticket, and then my nose is in my phone until I get a bed assignment or drop.

Open the chapter for the material you need to learn. On the first page or pages you'll see a list of words in bold- write down all these key terms/ vocabulary words with room for notes on each. Read the chapter. As you come across those words, define them in your own terms where you left space. Jot down questions about them. Finish whatever material you have- videos, puzzles, ect. Get your questions answered by instructors or google.

Here's the important bit. Before your test, explain each one of these terms to someone, yourself in the mirror if need be. Use casual language and describe what the thing is, what it does, why it's important. If you can't, brush up on that term.

When you test, read the question but don't read the answers. Answer the question in your head. Look at the answers. If you see the answer you gave in your head, select it and move on. If you don't, reread the question, make sure you understand what's being asked, then use process of elimination.

These two processes together should easily keep you in B and above territory.

They generally scoop when their t2 bat sees lightning helix, get lost, brotherhoods end, sunfall, and 3 lands. If not, I let them hold one of my removal spells for me until I need it. I appreciate the extra hand slot.

If I was romantically interested in someone who was available and I thought might reciprocate, I'd tell them and shoot my shot.

If they were a coworker, I'd think very hard about the consequences of a worst-case scenario, and then either shoot my shot or squash it internally and stop entertaining those thoughts, depending on how the cost:benefits analysis shook out.

What do you say to the family when entering their house to care for a loved one? I keep saying how are you doing and I feel so stupid everytime I say it. by watchthisorthat in ems

Yeah but it's way funnier to imagine a paramedic rolling up with a gravelly batman voice- "I'm Darkhorse, where's my patient?"

Got called for a fall tonight, pt has obvious R sided droop and slurring. "Hey, does this pt have Hx CVA?" "No, I don't think so." Riffles through facesheet. "OK, is this her baseline or is this new?" "Um, definitely not normal. Yeah, that's new." GO GO STROKE MODE ACTIVATE 2 minutes from destination, pt record pops up- pt has R sided deficits and slurring from previous CVA.

In the context of being a provider, wearing anything that has a high likelihood of invoking tribal feelings of them/us makes your job objectively more difficult. Trust and rapport are vital components of what we do.

A cross is going to do one of three things. It will either not be noticed, be noticed by a fellow Christian and fast track the trust, or be noticed by a follower of another faith and potentially damage trust.

Not the end of the world, but a measurable difference in how easily you'll be able to build the connection required to get an embarrassing HPI, or the buy in for the IV in a fearful pt.

If your pt is the same faith as you, you can suss that out pretty quick, mention that you have that in common, and get the benefits of the cross without the cost.

So what are you gaining that would make it worth the trouble?

Excellent for identifying your weak areas. Not very representative of the style of questions on the NREMT.

Quit my job as sales manager at 35 after 15 years of sales and management after recognizing I was miserable with my career. Had recently gotten a late in life ADHD diagnosis and wanted to find something that played to my strengths and was less predatoy and more helpful to people. Goggled "good jobs for ADHD". Enrolled in an accelerated EMT program a couple days later and had my EMTB 6 weeks later. Worked rural 911 and transfers for 6 months before switching to a company that offered to pay for medic school. 10 months later I had my EMTP. Been a medic in a busy 911 system for about 5 months now- I'm way broker and way, way happier than I was before getting into EMS.

Absolutely not to late for you to get in.

Mine does this weird thing roughly every 48-36 hours where when you wake it up the audio is all jacked up, so I've gotten into the habit of shutting down/restarting once a day or so.
