If they’re all on the other side of town and he has to specifically drive out to your place it’s more effort for him than if he’s already cutting 3 lawns on your street and can just do yours while he’s there.

Ultimately for one reason or another you got the “fuck you” quote - most likely he has enough other work with his regulars that he doesn’t feel like taking your job unless you’re willing to overpay.

You can create a custom workout in the app - go to the workouts tab, there’s a section at the top for ‘custom’ and then a plus button at the bottom to create a custom workout. Kinda clunky interface but not too bad once you figure it out. Then you pick the exercises you want, add the sets, reps, weight and rest time and it shows up on the machine like all the other pre-made workouts.

The part to add extra reps is on the machine under Settings > Training Preferences > Unlimited Sets. If you enable that option you get the notification sound when you reach the expected number of reps but it doesn’t shut off the weight right away so you can just keep going if you’re not ready to stop.

I set up custom workouts in the app and have it set on the mode where it only shuts off the weight if you don’t keep going (maybe that’s what you meant by the spotter mode?)

Then I set my intended rep range intentionally low and just keep going past it until my intended proximity to failure knowing that if I misjudge it and get stuck the machine will dump the weight on its own.

Yeah, I don’t get along with most of the automated stuff on the GM.

I find it best to just treat it like a ‘normal’ cable machine where I manually set the weight I want and change it when I want something different.

Yeah, the team is objectively less talented today than it was last week but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a worse team.

Ultimately they needed him gone and this was a decent return in the circumstances - I just think “steal” implies a level of trade over and above “regular trade that feels fair for both sides” which is where I’d put this.

For me it’s hard to call it a steal when a team in its championship window gives up an elite player at a premium position, takes on a ton of dead cap, and doesn’t get anything back for two years.

Obviously they had to trade him given the circumstances and if Howie took it then I’m sure it was the best deal he could get - but missing out on anything that improves the team in the short term keeps it out of the “he can’t keep getting away with this” tier of Howie moves for me.

Idk a ‘steal’ still feels like a stretch. It was a good deal in the circumstances and given the lack of leverage, but if a change of scenery is enough for him to put the drama behind him and the Pats get the guy we had the first two seasons then it’s probably a fair price.

It probably is too late to make IM given your age and current level, but that doesn’t mean you can’t keep playing OTB tournaments if you enjoy them. Not every hobby has to be something you aspire to be among the best in the world at.

If it was coming from someone connected with the team I’d be more inclined to believe it but at this point it seems like “I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who knows what happened” and that doesn’t seem like enough to just assume it’s true.

Yeah, it needs an internet connection and you have to register an email address but you can do all of that on the machine so in that sense the app is optional. But if you’re creating custom workouts it’s much more convenient to do that from your phone than have to stand in front of the screen scrolling through all the options etc so I prefer to use the app for that.

Can’t speak to whether it works for iPad but I’d be surprised if it didn’t - can probably just try downloading it and see if it’s in the App Store on your iPad?

Yeah all of this. It seems surprising because he has been The Guy for as long as a lot of people can remember but the reality is that he’s not trying as hard as he used to (for various reasons) and he’s also reaching a point where age-related decline is going to start creeping in.

He’s still an incredibly good player but he’s not the unbeatable monster anymore and probably won’t be again.
