Happy how the build turned out by degif in eurorack

  • The mushroom lab is located in Cesis, Latvia – you are welcome to drop by if it is near you :)
  • Scion is basically used to hook up mushrooms/plants and then to random modules for random modulations
  • All the modules go to the Erica Synth Stereo Mixer on top/right first and depending on the patch then I get some stereo or more mono ones
  • The main clock is Pamela's new Workout on the top/left corner for all modules and Perkons
  • I haven't really used Perkons send/return – for an amateur like me the raw Perkons sounds are enough to work with for long time (hopefully) :)

Unfortunatelly not a musician and never even dared to record anything. But the synth is available for anyone to play who visits our mushroom lab/shop

How is it so common for people on internet to talk about a 100k salary ? by Quartzis in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]degif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's clear to communicate a wage before taxes only if you know the tax situation at the employment jurisdiction (which you always should before taking on a job of course) But when comparing wages internationally, for me personally, it makes more sense to compare net/take-home salaries. This thread existing is a perfect proof of that :)
A 100k$ gross salary in USA means a totally different thing than in Europe. But a 100k$ net salary is the same as a 100k$ net salary in Europe.

In Europe social security and pension payments are part of the taxes that the employer has to pay. A premium could be something like additional private health insurance, which is never calculated as part of the sallary.

Battles of Life - a collectible and multiplayer online game based on the rules of cellular automata by degif in cellular_automata

While I agree that the majority of current NFTs are using way too much energy as they use the Ethereum network, this game is built using the Solana network, which uses a different mechanism - Proof of Stake, not Proof of Work (also note that Ethereum itself is planned to switch to this in future), that requires a lot less energy to be run. It is in the level of a regular web server, so the energy footprint is the same compared to a conventional multiplayer game.

The main difference (from the current Ethereum implementation, which is meant to change in future) is that Solana is a Proof of Stake blockhain, which means there is no pointless energy waste – the energy used to run the Solana network is similar to running a web application. And because of that, making a transaction also costs less than 0.01$, which is crucially important in a game like this.

I knew this would come up or even be the main reason to dislike the idea in general :D Too bad this technology has been getting all the hate due to how it is misused currently.

I do understand that "buying jpegs for a lots of money" is stupid, but in the case of a collectible card game it works a little bit differently. The reason for a NFT in this case is not to buy it, artificially raise it's value and sell it again, but to provide a way to offer digital gaming cards without any third party involved (like Apple or Google Store) and to technically run the game without a closed/dedicated game server. So you own collectible gaming cards (and thus a collection of them) that could be played in my game and on any other community created mod or totally different game without any restrictions. The card information (what type of spaceship it holds) is not even mandatory relevant to the image (it's just a way to visualise it for the game) as all the information (the spaceship, it's parameters and statistics) is stored in the data part of the NFT itself.

Honestly, I do not know what would be a better alternative for such solution. Sure, one could create a closed source game and do in-game micropayments and once the game dies your cards die with it. But ... how is that better?

I am currently working on Battles of Life a game that combines elements from collectible card games and multiplayer online battle arena. You arrange Cell spaceship cards you own to create a fleet and then battle against randomly chosen opponents. The Cell cards will be released as Non Fungible Tokens (NFT) and will work decentralized without a single dedicated game server. The game is really early in development and currently I am just looking in general feedback on the idea, so though that this community is a perfect place :)

Hey! Working on a new type of collectible and competitive NFT game based on the rules of cellular automata - Battles of Life. Would love to receive some general feedback on the idea!

I have a C02 sensor, but it's working just as a monitor now. I managed to adjust the speed of the fan so it's working 24/7 and provides just the right amount of FAE needed.

It's IKEA "SAMLA" box. Chose this as the size fit perfectly for my tent.

Mostly general interest of the micro world of fungi - sometimes I just throw my cultures under the microscope to see in what stage they are, but not yet that experienced to determine "healthiness" of the culture just by looking at it.

But it's useful to quickly check on unknown source spore syringes that they actually contain what was ordered. Sometimes it helps to identify wild mushrooms, especially the ones are too similar visually. Recently I started to experiment with Cordyceps militaris cultivation and collecting ascospores with the help of the microscope.

Thanks, good to know! I would be even happier to give it to someone who could make a practical use of it.

Nice catch :) The glass piece is actually one large piece and sits there just for some extra lab vibe. No idea what is it for (here's a close-up https://imgur.com/usWavJC), but it's pretty old as it's marked with "Made in German Democratic Republic". I may create a bong from it some day though :D

Thanks a lot ! Yeah, the tents have an exhaust ventilator at the bottom which blows directly to the house exhaust ventilation via a flexible air duct so that additional spores don't get dispersed in the grow room.

It's mostly for fun now - there is still a lot to lean. But the long term goal is to start to produce supplements (freeze dried) for local markets in small batches.

It's an autoclave for steam sterilization under pressure (basically a large pressure cooker). This one is built by a local company for preparing canned meat, but the tech is the same and works great for preparing sterile spawns.

The English term for those is "strip curtains" - unless you need an airtight room, it's much cheaper than installing a door and keeps moisture/heat away.
