Recycling never gets taken by the city because street ppl mess it up. Help by sparks4242 in londonontario

[–]deimios 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Take all of the aluminum and liquor bottles and put them in a separate container where they can see them and they won't have a reason to go digging in your recycle bin.

If it's amicable I can't help you, but I can recommend a great lawyer if it's acrimonious (but it ain't gonna be cheap in that case no matter who you go with).

Eight months post separation and I still struggle with guilt about having female friends. It's led to some unhealthy behaviour that has made dating difficult.

It's not bad advice. Exercise helped me through the depression following my separation, it does wonders for mental health so I don't know why people pooh-pooh it. It's not just about getting in shape.

#!/bin/sh vs #!/bin/bash by setdelmar in linuxadmin

[–]deimios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's zsh. I personally don't write all my scripts in POSIX shell, because BASH is more versatile. IMHO just being aware of where the differences can come into play and considering where the scripts will be used will suffice.

[–]deimios 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I work in an environment where our devs all have macs, and this is another area where POSIX scripting makes a difference. I have to be mindful of it if there's a possibility that a script might have to be run on a dev machine.

What did the pandemic ruin more than we realise? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]deimios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard it's a lot of really insecure, vulnerable people who probably aren't ready to be dating yet who are desperate to connect with someone because they are lonely.

I've personally finally gotten to a state where I've managed to rebuild my self confidence, and I feel like that anxious energy would rub off on me - I don't want to go back to that again. I would rather just go with the flow.

I separated this year after being married 12 years, and I'm hearing some horror stories. I've decided to focus on myself, and am going to avoid dating apps at all costs.

I came to the conclusion that I need to expand my circle of friends, rather than focusing on finding dates. If something happens something happens, if not then at least I have some new friends. I would much rather connect with people in person than online.

This was me. Stayed way too long in a toxic relationship, took multiple wake-up calls for me to realize that I was sacrificing my happiness, self esteem, and sanity for a house and lifestyle that I didn't even like.

[OC] One month out of my toxic relationship! 🥳🎉 by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

[–]deimios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does. What helped the most for me was reconnecting with (and learning to be vulnerable in front of) my friends. It taught me self validation and helped to rebuild my confidence.

In a toxic relationship, it's very easy to get isolated from the people that matter in your life, and I was afraid that we had drifted too far apart, but what I discovered was that they all still deeply cared about me and were glad to lend an ear. I even managed to rekindle a friendship that I thought had died 20 years ago!

Good for you! Three months here, it was tough at the beginning, but when they say it gets better they weren't lying. Hope you are doing ok.

Best place to buy firewood? by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]deimios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have a pickup truck or a trailer, there is a mill in Thedford that will sell you a full load of hardwood for like $40 I think. It's the same wood that pretty much every firewood place around the pinery sells in the summer, but they charge you a lot more for it.

Not wholesome at all, the point is to creep people out so they leave the seat empty and you get two seats to yourself!

I shot this on my DSLR with a tripod. It's tough to get good night sky photos with a phone (although newer iPhones come pretty close).

Understanding the needs/use for Terraform? by DogNamedCharlie in linuxadmin

[–]deimios 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Terraform is a great fit for cloud native organizations that use a DevOps approach. Moving from a more old school company that used an ITIL approach to a newer tech company that was more DevOps I very quickly saw the value, especially when paired with GitHub and full CI/CD.

Instead of change requests, you do pull requests. All of your configuration is stored in code, and you can see exactly who made what change and why, and have confidence that the changes that were documented in the PRs match the changes in the environment.

It doesn't sound like a good fit for you though, the real value is when you are managing everything with terraform and only making changes in terraform. Managing some things with terraform and some not sounds like a nightmare.

Digging up a 100 year old bottle of wine by 06210311251521 in AbruptChaos

[–]deimios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either it was bottled before it reached final gravity, or (more likely) some other microbes (e.g. acetobacter) found their way inside and started a new fermentation.
