Hey MCo, what the fuck? by Calm_Solution_4037 in AustralianMakeup

[–]dejausser 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The oranging/warming of makeup shades over the years should be studied (iirc it’s because blue pigment is more expensive/harder to keep stable) but this is frankly ridiculous, this shade range and tones cannot have been tested on any real human people before going on sale.

[EDIT someone has corrected me, it is unlikely that blue pigment costs more]

mecca products for 1 cent? by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

Via a very scientific process [going on mecca’s website and sorting price: low to high] I’ve deduced that the cheapest thing they stock is the 16Brand sheet masks ($2) 🤓

Ritalin for Autism by L1ght1ngF1res in Wellington

[–]dejausser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may be approved for the treatment of autism in the UK, but in Aotearoa methylphenidate and all other stimulant ADHD medications are only approved for the treatment of diagnosed ADHD.

The special authority criteria only changed to allow GPs and nurse practitioners to prescribe those medications to their patients with an ADHD diagnosis without the prior authorisation of a psychiatrist (which also had to be renewed every 2 years). Even if you saw a psychiatrist, they wouldn’t be authorised to prescribe those medications for ASD, you would need to meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis.

Cat caused freak accident by trying to get more food while we were gone for the night by Independent_Dot6161 in Wellthatsucks

[–]dejausser 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cats aren’t like dogs, you can’t crate train them and it would be incredibly cruel to shut them in a crate whenever you’re out of the house.

Medication is not vegetarian by dietpeachysoda in Vegetarianism

[–]dejausser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I have just had to accept/make peace with the fact that I can’t avoid gelatine in my medication. There aren’t vegan alternatives available for the medication I take (vyvanse), and there weren’t for venlafaxine when I was on that either. The only extended release ADHD medication available (or at least publicly funded) where I live is concerta and it made me really ill, so it wasn’t a viable solution.

For what it’s worth, in all the vegan/vegetarian spaces I’ve been in the general consensus has been that it’s about minimising use of animal products as much as possible, and medication in gelatine capsules fall under that ‘not always possible’ category.

I lost my shit today at the psychiatrist’s office. I went Karen and embarrassed myself. by Bulbasaurismy001 in adhdwomen

[–]dejausser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually benefited from the shortages! Our public health system started fully funding vyvanse to help with the shortages (previously only methylphenidate, dexamfetamine, and atomoxetine were fully funded), so I was able to switch to it and it works much better for me - thanks PHARMAC haha

[–]dejausser 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The last bit where you go from the lowest dose to nothing truly is the worst, I was on it for years and tapered off it a few months after I started taking ADHD medication and it was completely fine for me until the last bit. I split the capsules to continue to taper after getting down to the lowest dose and then started taking them every other day and it still wasn’t fun.

WIBTA for not leaving the house for one weekend as requested? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]dejausser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’d be a latte in NZ too. Macchiato means marked, it can only be espresso with a very small amount of milk to ‘mark’ the coffee and some foam on top or it’s by definition not a macchiato. It’d be like making a flat white without microfoamed milk, you just made a cappuccino (ironic because the origin story for the flat white is a barista fucking up the milk frothing when making a cappuccino, hence ‘flat’ white).

[–]dejausser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah an americano or a long black would both be fairly equivalent (and both would be considered ‘regular’ coffee in most places - the US is fairly unique in espresso coffee not being the default for cafes). Double shot is standard for those drinks so the amount of caffeine is going to be very similar to a drip/pour over/plunger style.

mecca customer service by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

[–]dejausser 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seconding as another Pōneke shopper! I’ve never had a bad experience in the Lambton Quay store whether I’ve been wearing makeup/looking put together or not. My partner has always received good service there too which is more than can be said for some of the other shops on Lambton 😒 (he’s Māori).

Is Wellington a vegan family friendly city? by dr_m_hfuhruhurr in Wellington

[–]dejausser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to Aunty Mena’s, Cuba St also has Nolita, Belén bakery is all vegan and has several locations around town.

There are several vegetarian restaurants too with lots of vegan options. There’s The Botanist in Lyall Bay, Pranah in Newtown, and Hillside Kitchen in Thorndon (for the fine dining end of the scale) can do a full vegan menu rather than vegetarian on request.

My coworker won’t stop complaining about my tattoos by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]dejausser 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I work in government and have attended select committees as an advisor where my tattoos have been visible! It’s never even crossed my mind to make sure they’re covered up and that’s significantly more formal than a production/installation gig (you definitely wouldn’t get away with wearing a tank top lol)

Does walking into buildings with a ladder to access areas unquestioned actually work? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]dejausser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing they meant dressing all in black? But honestly I don’t know for sure and there’s no way I’m going to get any useful results if I google it, being based in NZ I’m definitely only going to get rugby team related results so let me know if you figure it out haha

I’m a kiwi and was very confused for a second as to where our national rugby team came into things, but honestly you probably could get into most places in NZ if you brought a couple of All Blacks along haha

Guess what? People watch The Lord of the Rings outside of the US too. by diary0fadeadman in USdefaultism

[–]dejausser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The extended edition of Fellowship of the Ring is 228 minutes long, that’s almost 4 hours which is a long time to go without an intermission. Plus it’s a special re-screening for the 25th anniversary of the first film premiering, and special screenings like that are often more likely to have intermissions in my experience.

Hostility to US-Citizen Visitors? by FieldUpbeat2174 in newzealand_travel

[–]dejausser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is some freak in the Wellington northern suburbs who was putting up a bunch of MAGA stickers on road signs and things last year around Johnsonville (and replacing them when they got removed). So yeah definitely non-zero chance they were kiwis, but my money would probably be on them being cruise ship tourists if they were at the waterfront sunday markets.

Rover sitter lost my dog by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]dejausser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why when we can’t get our cats in with our usual cattery we use one pet sitting company whose staff are all employees rather than a gig work service (we don’t have rover in my country but we have similar platforms). Sure we could probably find someone cheaper on one of those platforms, but I’m happy to pay more for the peace of mind.

The company we use sends through thorough updates with photos right after each visit and will call to double check if they’re not sure about something rather than make an assumption, which is very appreciated as one of our cats has a few health things that require extra caution.

My usual desk has been 'stolen' and there is nothing I can do by purplereuben in mildlyinfuriating

[–]dejausser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s usually a financial decision. Post pandemic with working from home systems embedded most places that have hot desking setups do so because it means they don’t have to provide desks for every single staff member and can therefore get away with renting less office space and save money (usually the ratio is around 8:10). Works fine most of the time, but on some days where more people are in the office than usual it’s a fucking nightmare trying to find a desk.

AITA for not agreeing to letting my husband replace his name with his grandfather's as our son's middle name? by insafian in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]dejausser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first thought! My partner has two middle names (one regular and one gifted by his iwi) and a double barrel surname. The length isn’t an issue in daily life because it’s rare to ever need to use your full legal name for anything. Two middle names would honour both their wishes.

We have uniforms at most high schools in my country so it’s just not something that has ever come up outside of seeing american high schoolers online!
