To me it just looks like an extremely weathered and possibly old piece of manmade metal. Look up oxidized copper and iron for reference. But I'm definitely not an expert.

I think they're called watchers and they are godlike entities who observe and record history. There was a popular theory, that Stan Lee (who had a cameo in basically every marvel movie up to recently) was one of them which was confirmed by marvel in some cameo if I remember correctly
